I have the perfect solution that i use myself for the same problem. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a littler purple cube with an activated carbon filter inside that is really great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays. You probably should place one in your freezer and your refrigerator since circulate together. The carbon filter in this product literally eliminates the odors and works for a long time. I use this product everywhere including my fridge and freezer and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it and it's not expensive. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying. It's the best product for getting rid of odors and no messy powders and little pieces.

I'm not sure if you saw the mythbusters episode where they left a dead pig in a car in the heat for a while, but they found there is no way to get that out without removing the carpeting and any fabric that the smell may have attached itself to, and THEN cleaning the smell from the metal with the enzyme cleaners (they used a heavy-duty version of the natures miracle from a crime-scene cleanup company). Before you go that route, you may want to try something that hotels and used car dealers use that mythbusters didn't try, which is to get an ozone generator and stick it in the trunk for a couple of days. Ozone has this great ability to kill smells, and maybe it will work in this case. Where do you find an ozone generator? A quick search on yahoo! will point you in the right direction. Consumer models such as the sharper image ionic breeze may work well, but the commercial-grade machines pump out like 50x more ozone and will give your poor trunk a better chance at survival. Good luck!

I recommend removing all items from the fridge.
Fill a bucket with HOT water amd mix in some "Mr Clean Anti-bacterial multi purpose Cleaner" (Blue in color) Smells wonderful. Get a cleaning rag, dip it in, ring it out, and clean
every square inch of the inside of fridge. Repeat this process like 3 times. Dry out the inside. Leave door of fridge open to air it out. Place 2 arm and hammer baking sodas on the
shelves and a bowl of charcoal on the middle shelf and let it sit a few hours. Always keep the arm and hammers in the fridge and freezer to make sure it always absorbs regular odors and helps foods taste better. Be sure to find what caused the fridge to quit working. Power surge, etc... So maybe you can have back up precautions you can take before going away for long periods of time so you don't have to go through this again. Good luck!

If you can borrow or even rent a steam cleaner ( we bought one that we use periodically) ---it will help. I don't mean a large steam-cleaner, just a hand-held steamer. When you've completed the steaming of every little corner, fill containers (any size) with Bicarbonate of Soda ---don't cap the lids. Leave the powder open in the cleaned-out freezer ---it should absorb the odors. You might have to repeat the process in a few days with fresh bicarbonate of soda.
Hope that helps a little.

If you are close to a major city, look in the phone book for people who clean up after crime scenes or in home deaths. They have special cleaners to kill the enzimes and negate the smell.

You can stuff crumpled up newspaper in side and shut the door.
I know it sounds funny but I think it should help.
