Is there any part of the country in which codes are liberal enough to allow one to reside in a shed or a prefabricated/modular garage? I have seen pictures of old fashioned quonset homes (the aluminum arch houses) but I have never seen any which were lived in. I only read about such homes in magazines like DWELL and Readymade. Here in Michigan, very little housing diversity exists. Is there any part of the country in which an owner could legally build a house for under $30,000? If so, please tell me where and provide links if possible thanks. For anyone else interested, Karrie Jacobs, founder of Dwell magazine, recently published a book called the $100,000 house. It discusses the issue of affordable housing. Thanks very much!

I've noticed recently the sound of water running in my tub (it really sounds like hissing, not water running). There is NO water anywhere. I've checked the panel behind the tub and there is no leak, no dampness, and the sound is more faint. I have no water dripping, and the faucets are tightly shut. If I put my ear to the faucets, I can hear it stronger. I am on the top floor of a condo. This sound is constant, and not due to neighbors bathing. The neighbors below have not complained of a leak. It seems the noise is growing stronger daily now. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

I just had a new mattress set delivered by the Room Store. On the way up the stairs, the 2 men did not pay attention to a light fixture on the wall and scraped it with the mattress. It punctured the drywall on one side, and also the one of the screws broke. What infuriated me is that they didn't know I saw them and then tried to get me to sign the papers stating the delivery was ok and that there was no damage to the item and my home and personal property. I quickly (in a nice way) pointed the light out and he was like, "oh, yeah, it's just a screw. you can buy that." No attempt to fix it or offer a solution. I made sure to make note of the damage on the sheets I signed and crossed off the no damage statement.
Has this ever happened to anyone? What should be done here, if anything? Will the company do anything if we do call? I know these were just delivery men and it's not their problem. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble.

I just covered my garden with a 4 mil thick plastic covering and put wood chips over that. I did it 2 years ago, but the squirrels, rabbits, and birds poke or dig holes through the plastic to get the worms underneath. I would really appreciate any ideas to keep them away before they poke and dig through so the weeds won't grow through. I went to Home Depot and seen a spray for just that purpose, but it was to expensive. Please help! My use-to-be garden is 15 feet by 22 feet.

I'm in my 2nd year of college. And am living in suite with 3 other guys. My first question in about 2000 Flushes, does it really work, anything that will keep me from cleaning the toilet bowel, it already looked bad when I got here?

My freshmen year, I was in dorms and the laundry room, was downstairs, with 6 washer and eight dryers, Where I'm staying at now there is onlly 2 washers and 2 dryers. I use to be able to take of 3 or 4 washer, and get my clothes done quicker. I would wake up a 6am to make sure no eles was in there. But I can't do that now. What I'm wondering is can you mix jean pants with shirts . Because last year, I would seperate everything, jeans by themselve, shirts by themselves, socks(white only), and towels and sleeping clothes and underwear together. But I can do that this time.

So can jeans and shirts go together, and is waking up really early and taking boht washers, ok? The resident asstiace, said that if people abuse the washer, he'll assign times slot 5 us

We all know double pane glass keeps the heat inside the house better on cold days because of insulation values, but is there a difference between the two when it comes to sunlight shining in? After all, that works on a different physical basis, doesn't it? I'm only asking because I think it's quite handy that the sun heats up the house during the day, but it would be nice if that warmth would then stick around after sunset. It just wouldn't make sense to put in double-glazing to do that if it also means that the sun wouldn't heat up the house anymore.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks.

We have a ginger lily and lately it has had some water droplets appear on the leaves that were not put there by us!

so, I wonder - do some plants transpirate droplets of liquid (water in this case, I have checked!), in reaction to - whatever?

This is a central air conditioner unit, not a window unit. I would like to extend its life if possible, but I am not sure if covering it with a tarp or similar material is actually recommended. Please advice.
