I just covered my garden with a 4 mil thick plastic covering and put wood chips over that. I did it 2 years ago, but the squirrels, rabbits, and birds poke or dig holes through the plastic to get the worms underneath. I would really appreciate any ideas to keep them away before they poke and dig through so the weeds won't grow through. I went to Home Depot and seen a spray for just that purpose, but it was to expensive. Please help! My use-to-be garden is 15 feet by 22 feet.

Not a good idea. Several years ago I had some leftover roofing felt that I figured I could put down and put rocks over to keep the weeds down. Didn't work well. Ants loved the area under it. You are better off pulling the weeds and laying a thick (about 10 sheets) layer of newspaper (do not use shiny sheets, just regular paper part of it) and put a 4-5 inch layer of mulch on top. This really keeps the weeds down for a couple of years.

weeds happen. weed barriers need to be replaced on occasion. You can scape off the mulch and replace the barrier, then cover with new mulch. BTW, plastic is not the best option. Home Depot and other garden centers sell weed barriers that allow the ground to breath. Consider roundup for the weeds.

I was told by a proffesional gardener that if you put newspaper down (overlap) under the plastic...then mulch. You should see her gardens...not a weed in them. Also, human hair or moth balls aroung your garden. Plug the moth balls about 2-3 inches below the soil around the perimiter...it works!

You can use human hair around the edge of the bed to help keep animals out of it, or try red chili powder, they don't seem to like the hot smell or taste.

go to home depot or another type store and purchase wire mesh fence material similar to the screen on your windows but larger, and lay it on top of the plastic
