They turn into extra wire hangars and stuff themselves into your closets...........where they multiply incessantly.

There is a rim around the top of the machine tub. They will actually spin around and go into the outer chamber of the machine. Eventually, this will ruin your washer. The best methods of washing socks is to put them in a mesh bag. Wow! No more missing socks.

Y'know, I pondered this question forever, then I went exploring. In the dryer, there is a vent hole, I dug in there and found some missing socks. Plus, if you pull out your washer and dryer (if you're like me, when you're switching the loads around, you set them on top of either the washer or dryer) you'll find some missing socks under and behind them. Happy hunting!

i have an obsessive compulsive friend. She swears that if the socks make it in the washer the come out. Same for the dryer. She knows because the counts them every time.

They are either stuck in fitted sheet corners, in your husband's closet (he forgot to put the pairs together) or he threw one away because it got a hole in it. Anything to drive wives crazy.
