I've noticed recently the sound of water running in my tub (it really sounds like hissing, not water running). There is NO water anywhere. I've checked the panel behind the tub and there is no leak, no dampness, and the sound is more faint. I have no water dripping, and the faucets are tightly shut. If I put my ear to the faucets, I can hear it stronger. I am on the top floor of a condo. This sound is constant, and not due to neighbors bathing. The neighbors below have not complained of a leak. It seems the noise is growing stronger daily now. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

You may have a leak toilet. Check that first.
The sound you hear coming out of the drain of your tub could be coming from the vent pipe and wind blowing over the top of the upright pipe on the roof. no problem.
It could also be an impedence in the waste line that is seeping water out but is not really totally stopping the water flow to cause a stoppage. This is unlikely.
It could also be a water heater sound that is transmitted up the pipes to your faucets as a kind of low level vibration.
Check your water meter. If it doesn't show any water is running out while all your faucets are all off, it's not in your supply line.
If water is leaking, you will be able to tell by looking at the water meter.
Hope this helps.

It may be the sound of your neighbors water running. maybe you share a drain pipe somewhere. I had a similar problem in an apartemtn I lived in, but didn't ever notice it until one day the upstairs neighbor was taking a bath and their nasty water was backing up into my sink, tub and shower. There was a clog in the line. Hope this does not happen to you.

Maybe its a fan or something on the roof?

Possible a water leak and it is in the wall and draining somewhere else.

Tell your condo association to make your super checks it out thoroughly, If it is running water, it is costing someone big bucks.

It may be a leak in the water line somewhere that you cannot detect on your own. Call in a plumber.

Maybe too much water pressure, and some of the air is escaping.
