So this is the situation:
my father slammed the door on his thumb.

It is now swollen, black, and purple ish.

He's going to the doctor tomorrow.

But he thinks the nail will fall off and not grow back.

Will that really happen? Because I've had that happen to me (albeit with less force, resulting in slight bruising), but my nail is fine now.

So what will happen? The nail is currently still attached.

Please give advice (particularly if you have medical experience of this sort). No guesses please.

Thank you in advance.

Has anyone fallen 3-5 feet onto your butt and suffered a sacral injury? Am trying to locate someone that has been successful with an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for healing and/or pain. So far I'm unable to find a Dr. that understands the injury so have'nt been able to find a treatment. Nothing shows up on MRI or CT because it's primarily nerve damage. Would appreciate "any" info or input anyone might have. Thanks, Grammel

Three years ago I was in an auto accident. I cut my scalp on the windshield and had bad wiplash. Still after 3 years I am getting sharp pains and even migrains (I never did before). I don't have insurance and would like opinions as to what it is and what treament I can use. All search results for "internal head injury" have taken me to sites about children, and it's not that helpful.

I am having difficulty walking upstairs and after I sit for a long period (like at the movies), my knees are sore. Does this sound like osteoarthritis to you? If I bend at the knees it sounds kinda "gritty"sounding.

I fell 2 days ago and hurt my knee, since then I've been icing it once a day for 15min. Should I be applying heat instead of ice?

The chair is wooden, non-malleable, rather hard, and approximately 9.67 pounds. If anyone could help me figure this out, as i am rather afraid to sit down at the moment, for fear of the safety of my anus.

Does anyone have any advice for a settlement amount for a small personal injury? I am not going to get an attorney, it was fairly minor. The fault is totally on the other party, and they've settled $1200 for myself for minor whiplash, missed work, etc. ($500 of that was for pain and suffering). We're getting ready to settle on my son's settlement. His nose was fractured and he had a cut inside his mouth. His medical bills are approximately $1800, what should I expect for pain and suffering for him? I don't want to take advantage, but I don't want to be taken advantage of... Never done this sort of thing before, so any advice is extremely welcome!! Thanks to all!!

As the title suggests, I have forgotten how to sit down. It's been 20 days since I last sat in a chair. For some reason I can't make my legs bend when I try. I have no problem walking or running, but I do have some trouble getting into bed. I usually run and jump to get in, and occasionally I miss. The hardest part is getting out of bed. I'm forced to roll out and fall on the hardwood floor. Once I gave myself a concussion when I hit my head on the nightstand. Also, as you may imagine this problem hinders me from using the latrine. For the past 20 days I been using a grocery bag to relieve myself. I have successfully made an enemy out of my garbage man. Every Tuesday he bangs on my door to ask me "What if I went to your workplace and *expletive* on your desk!" You may think I'm mentally handicapped, but I beg you any answers you may provide will help. Thank you.

Well I tore my ankle ligaments in July last year, so eight months ago. The swelling never fully went down. And I had physiotherapy on it. It has previously swollen up through running on uneven ground and long distance running, so I tend to avoid that. Today I have been playing football (soccer) and it is really painful right now at home. Also the inside of the same foot, going along the big toe side and slightly underneath is very painful. It is horrible to walk on and I am currently icing it. But I recieved no direct injury to it today. I may have landed awkwardly on it, but nothing that I was fully aware about or that was painful. So i could have made it worse by carrying on playing. What could it be? And what should I do?

I'm an EMT student and just recently I started working in the emergency room for the clinical part of the course....we need 25 patient contacts and with each patient, we need to fill out a paper on what the condition/treatment was.
So, we had a 93 yr old female come in with a femur fracture (broke right in half), no traction splint was applied, and she wasn't c/o any pain. They took her upstairs to admit and I missed the rest!!!! What is going to be the treatment for this lady? Please help...
