A child turns up at A and E with her mother after trapping her hand in a door. This gets reported to social services.
Is this standard procedure? If not what is the criteria?

after surgical attachment above the hand, can the regenerating nerve maintain intergrity to innervate all the muscles in the hand or it depends which hand muscles were exercised or it is hard to tell with nerves?

I was stabbed about 3 months ago on the front of my right shoulder about 1/2 inches above where the bicept and shoulder muscles meet. I have nerve damage and numbness all along the bottom/right side of my forearm. My bicept is limp and doesnt seem to be functioning. It also seems as if one of my tendons arent functioning right because when i raise my arm only one of the tendons seem to be working. I doubt the tendon was severed but it might be the nerve damage effecting this tendon. My arm seems to be very weak. If anyone could please inform me if my bicept will repair the muscle by itself or i would need surgery to fix these problems. Also, if the muscles/tendon arent functioning well because of the nerve damage.

If I have torn cartilage am I running a risk of making it worse by walking around - - not much pain but stiff and swollen. Usually only bothers me when I go up stairs..

What are the risks of surgical repair?

and the hand loses function/feelings... after the nerve has been surgically reattached and the long process takes place for the nerve regenerate.... when the nerve grows into the hand would the muscles that were previously commonly used through memory pick up from where it has left? for example, writing, holding a spoon, playing an instrument, etc

Thursday. I am concerned because my foot doesn't look any different to when they put it in plaster in fact it looks slightly worse. To boot the doctor didn't even look at it just said can you stand on it I said yes and off he went.
However my foot is still very bruised and swollen as is my ankle, the back of my heel and lower leg and if I walk on if for more than a couple of minutes the whole lot swells up like a balloon!. Should I just wait and see what happens, see my own doctor or go to a Sports Injury Clinic, I really don't know what to do at the moment.

Am supposed to go back to work in just under 2 weeks and I walk there and back which is a couple of miles, but the way my foot is looking I don't think I will be able to do that.

I was crouching and pushing a pile of freight when all of a sudden I felt almost like a crunching sensation in the back of my knee. It hurts when I move it, and on top of that my boss wouldn't let me go home. So for 9 hours I've been limping on it. I went and bought an ace bandage at lunch and wrapped it, but that didn't seem to help. Now that I've gotten a better look at it and am home, it appears that the back of my knee is grey and purple and there are a lot of purple veins leading to the area. I think it's swollen in the back as well. There's a soft lump kind of hanging down from the knee, it doesn't seem to be as loose on my other one. Any ideas?

I was watching an older wilderness show (70s) where a guy was helping a doctor in remote villages in Africa treat the people with wounds. While he was doing this, they were sprinkling a white, powdery substance onto any wounds before bandaging them up.

Anyone have a clue what that powdery substance was/is?

I cut my finger tip (actually, the finger pad--the part with the fingerprint) three days ago. The cut was very deep, and I got 4 stitches--an internal one to stop the bleeding and three external ones. I just took the bandage off, washed the cut, and applied neosporin and new bandaids as directed. I noticed as I was applying the neosporin, I couldn't feel the top half of my finger. Should I be concerned about nerve damage? I never had stitches before (and I've never cut my finger this deeply) so I don't know if this numb feeling I'm experiencing around the cut is normal or not. I'm going to call my dr, but I just wanted to learn about other ppl's experiences...

I've been jogging double what I used to the last 2 weeks or so & today I woke up w/ 2nd toe tender, and when I tried to jog, I couldn't for more than 5 min.

Did I injure it & it showed up next day? It's obviously not broken or anything; but anyone else had this?
