Maybe you need to see an occupational therapist to get your hand back in shape. You have experience muscle atrophy and stiffening of the joints. You need to work the hand.

I had a dislocated fracture on the fifth metacarpal, and when the cast was removed that part of the hand had slight puffiness and tenderness that decreased some with time but never quite went away - and it has been decades!! The hand isn't quite the same as the other one. There was not, however, any swelling on places that had nothing to do with the injury as you say you have.

After a cast has been on there is some muscle atrophy that can be really, really, painful if you move a joint. From what I've seen of any casts I've ever had on, the thing that was in a cast looks generally very "skinny" (with the exception of that not-quite-right hand thing I had).

I'm wondering if there's any chance the wrist could have been injured during removal of the cast? You really ought to call the doctor to ask if the swelling is ok - because I've never seen anything like what you described.

I have broken 2 fingers on two different occasions. After the splint was removed my hand and finger were very stiff. I went to physical therapy and they suggested I rub it during the day throughout the day. It gets stiff from not using it the way it should be used. Give it some time and use it as you normally would as best as you can and I guarantee it will improve for you.

It is gonna be stiff and sore the first couple days/week that you have your cast off. The muscles haven't been used in weeks and aren't used to moving. I would check in with your doctor if the swelling hasn't gone done in a couple days
