As a orthopedic RN this is one of my favorite procedures. I have had many patients who had this surgery, and are so happy with the results. They return to a more comfortable life. The surgery is very quick, very little to no pain. Most people come out of recovery room looking like they have been to the spa. There is a tiny band-aid over the incision. Most surgeons close with a glue to the skin. The best part of the procedure is that in most cases, the vertebral height is maintained, so the spine can function as if the bone were solid. I would encourage you to explore this with your MD. Good luck. Take care.

Having the balloon inserted between fractured or broken vertebrae takes the pressure off of them. It allows them to heal and/or remain in the proper position so that walking, etc. are possible. There has been a great deal of good results with this minimally invasive procedure.
