I was crouching and pushing a pile of freight when all of a sudden I felt almost like a crunching sensation in the back of my knee. It hurts when I move it, and on top of that my boss wouldn't let me go home. So for 9 hours I've been limping on it. I went and bought an ace bandage at lunch and wrapped it, but that didn't seem to help. Now that I've gotten a better look at it and am home, it appears that the back of my knee is grey and purple and there are a lot of purple veins leading to the area. I think it's swollen in the back as well. There's a soft lump kind of hanging down from the knee, it doesn't seem to be as loose on my other one. Any ideas?

it happened at work - your boss should have filled out a
Workman's compensation report - for your protection -
should this injury keep from working now, for a while, or
in the future. It may be re-occurring problem a few years from now.
If he does not do that, tell your doctor, he will do that and
your boss may have to anti-up to the WCB.
But your injury is serious - I have done the same thing at my job -
after a year of problems with my right knee - I had it replaced.
Doing great now.

You could have done many different things. You could have pinched a nerve, torn something, popped something out of place, or just badly bruised it. Seems like your boss is an idiot or just needed alot of help that day. I would suggest getting to a doctor for xrays, or the hospital if you cant get to a doctor. That way they can tell you if it is serious or not. Especially if you have to get back to work, you may have to have some modification. For now, ice it for 20 mins on and 20 mins off and keep repeating that. also make sure that you elevate your knee. it will help reduce the swelling. it doesnt sound so good, but i hope its nothing serious.

Ouch! It could very possibly be a sprain/strained muscle. For treatment, rotate ice and heat for 10 minutes whenever you can. Elevate it when sitting, and sleep with pillows under your leg. Try to stay off it as much as possible, but I know that can be hard especially with a full time job. It should be better in a week or two. if not, there's something else wrong, and you should see a foot/knee specialist!!

the lump on the back of your knee and the bruising sounds more like you tore your hamstring muscle. if you hear a 'pop" it is a very good chance that it could be that. also a very good possibilty could be your PCL. contact your dr ASAP... workers comp is a B***H to work with so be prepared for the run around. in the mean time lots of Rest, Ice, Compression with the ace wrap and elevate the limb with it above the level of your heart best of luck

Since you injured it at work, you qualify for workman's compensation to pay for your medical treatment and to pay you while you are off from work. Your boss did wrong to make you stay at work. There are knee braces which can help. If I were to guess, I'd say you probably torn a ligament, but there are a mulitude of things it could be. Is there a doctor or nurse on your job site? See a doctor.

Get to doctor! Could be torn tendon, meniscus? there are several tendons which hold knee together- real common to tear esp the way you describe- only repairable through surgery but it is a quick repair and done Thurs back to work Monday.

Go to the ER and don't forget to tell them that you were injured at work (Workmans Compensation) and that your ignorant boss wouldn't let you go home. You might need surgery there, sounds like you tore something inside. It probably won't heal on its own. Get to the ER.

There is definitely damage if it is discolored and has a lump. Is it hot to touch too? It sounds as if you damaged a ligament or a tendon. I would go to the hospital emergency room and get it checked. To be sure to state that it was a work related injury. I would also be sure to state that you informed your employer and he refused to allow you to leave. If there is permanent damage, your employer should pay for his negligence.

If this happened while you were at work, pushing something, it's a work-related injury. Not only should your boss have let you off work, but workers-comp should pay for the doctor visit that you need to have!

You might have cracked knee cap or dislocated it. or you might have pulled a muscle or something. Go to the doctor. You do not want to let it go.
