I went to the dentist yesterday to get set up for a crown, however, could not get anything done because the anesthetics did not work... he gave me 2 blocks, 5-6 shots in the area, and even drilled into the bone and placed some there... my entire right side of my mouth got numb, however, i could still feel every move he made with the drill on the tooth. I was just wondering what could have caused that? I am not a heavy caffeine drinker, I am not anxious about the dentist... I never have had problems in the past,... the only thing different about yesterday was that I was feeling under the weather with a sore throat and sinus issues... could that have any effect on it????

I chipped my front tooth when I was 11 years old and had to have a white composite filling to fill in the chip. I had a root canal done when I was 16 and they cahnged the filling and I'm 19 now and still have the same filling so it's laster 13 years. I never use my front tooth to bite into anything so perhaps that is why it's lasting so long? Has anyone heard of a filling to last so long?

I went to get a cleaning, and they said I had a few cavities, but didnt give me a number. Since I have a "few", will they give me the "laughing gas" or do more than one visit? And the needle anesthetic is painful, so what is this I hear about a Laser they use to get rid of the cavity so I dont need a shot?

I have a cracked tooth, it goes all the way down the middle to the gum and a piece came out of it. It's a pretty huge gap and it hurts like crazy. It's been like this for a while now, but I'm a big chicken when it comes to dentists. Just recently did it start to HURT like crazy, I'm going to have to suck it up and go in. Just so I know what to expect, Any saving that tooth?

I wore braces from age 13 - 15. They were removed because I didn't take the time to clean around them. I won't make excuses; I was young and naive.

To make a long story short, I'm 19 now and I have visible decalcification around all my teeth - basically in places that braces weren't. The level of decalcification is similar to this photo: http://www.staggersorthodontics.com/images/Decal.JPG

In fact, that actually looks VERY similar to my mouth. Additionally, I've had bruxism caused by stress and/or antidepressants. As a result, my occlusal surfaces are fairly worn. (If dental professionals are reading, mine is centric bruxism, and has had minimal effects on my gums and TMJ, and I'm wearing the hardest maxillary mouthguard my dentist provide, after wearing thru a thermoplastic in 2 months).

I've got a minor overbite (4 mm overlap) and a more significant overjet (7 mm).

What problems might arise in my future? Also, is it bad to drink sugar-free Coke after brushing my teeth?

I got a crown on my bicuspid/premolar two months ago after breaking off the back/inside cusp. It looked to me like the part that broke off was pretty small, and I did not need a root canal or anything. The crown has caused me all manner of problems (pain, cutting/scraping my tongue and lip, pressure on adjacent teeth, interfering with my singing, whistling and even slightly with my speech), and I keep wanting to just yank it out with my bare hand. Of course, I will go to a dentist, but I wonder if it's possible to just pull out the crown and not get another one, or would enough of the tooth be shaved off by now that it would damage it to leave it exposed? I have no concern about its appearance whatsoever--no one can see it anyway--so that's not an issue.

P.S. I was not in any pain after breaking the tooth and now suspect that the crown was completely unnecessary. Is this malpractice?

I have been stressed lately with uni, and i have pulled allnighters for a week-straight on, with tiny bits of sleep here & there.. The fifth day with no sleep, i realized i got this really sore tongue one morning, and it had these extremely tiny zit looking stuff on both sides of my tongue. This has never happend to me before! It kind of feels like i burned my tongue drinking hot coffee..but not quite. The tip of my tongue feels quite sore as well, but im not extremely sore either, just little uncomfortable. I can eat as well, just feels a little wierd. Could this be stress related etc?? Any suggestions to what this may be...? Thanks..

PS. I have only been sexually active with one person for 4years and vice versa..

I am currently getting my teeth fixed and ive been told that I need jaw surgery. My surgery is coming up and having second thoughts. Has anyone been through jaw surgery? I would like to hear from someone who has had their jaw fixed. What was the experience like and is it worth going through it all? Thanks a bunch!

I have a large gap between my teeth and have decided to get porcelain veneers. I need six veneers. After talking with my dentist, he said I could chip or break them if I bite into bacon that is too hard, or if I bite my nails(bad habit), and that I will need to wear a mouthguard at night so I don't grind them off. I really want to improve my smile and confidence, and orthadontics are not an option. Will the porcelain veneers hold up or will I regret this decision and be ultimately left with broken teeth that I won't be able to afford to fix? Would someone KNOWLEDGEABLE steer me in the right direction or give some advice?

Well like I said I have a canker like sore on the end of my tounge. At first I thought it was just one of my taste buds that occasionally get enlarged and go away shortly, but ive have had this for over 2 weeks and it hurst anytime i eat or drink or move it over my teeth. Are there any home remedies to use to get rid of it quickly or what do you think I should do? Anything will help at this point I just want it gone before the weekend.

Ugh, I never used to brush my teeth as a child, but now I brush my teeth every morning and every night and I don't have that many sweets. How is it that I never got a cavity back then and now I have one now?

I'm deathly scared of the dentist office now that I realized that an novacane is actually a shot in your mouth. To explain better how frightened I am of shots... My mother was getting her blood taken and I passed out in the waiting room at the thought. That's how scared I am.

So is there any possible way of getting rid of this cavity without having to take a visit to the dentist office and then a therapist?

My mother is experiencing a toothache, that is causing severe, intense migrains. We went to the E.R. & took 2 MRI's & alot of x-rays. The toothache was found to be a tooth infection that was caused by a root canal post that is turned sideways from dental work that was performed 7 years ago. The tooth is tooth # 12. The Post is turned sideways presumingly by neglect to treatment. The doctor appointed us to a Surgical dentist that wants to perform emergency surgery. My mother says her left legs & her back, is really starting to bother her. Can the infection be spreading?
Since they want to perform surgery to remove the post, they want to give her novacaine to relieve the pain before surgery. BUT wont novacaine affect the brain from the nerve that he will inject it into?
Understand that the main issue is facial numbness & that it is still an undiagnosed issue assumed to be a problem with the nerve that affects the face. she is leery the novacaine will affect the nerve & lead to the brain.
