I use to work in an oral surgery office. the only part that is painfull is the recovery. they can put you to sleep or you can do a local. the insertion of the implant itself goes into the bone. so you have now nerves just soft tissue on your jaw. so you will have some irritation, they will give you pain meds that most people don't use. it really is a cool process. i have seen lots of awesome results. you should go and have a consult with one of the nereast oral surgery offices.

I love them. It is the most natural way to replace missing teeth. It is a long process so don't expect to be completed in a month. There is a healing time involved before completing the procedure with crowns. Placement is no more painful than an extraction. If you are properly anesthetized you will not feel anything. The most painful part is the cost. They are not cheap. Some insurance plans are now covering a portion so if you have insurance inquire about coverage. Also if you live in the vicinity of a dental school, inquire as to price. I would definitely recommend them but proper maintenance is key.

Yes, I have two on bottom jaw at the back. Yes, they did hurt like hell. I got them done about 10 years ago when I was in Japan. The dentist who did the job was one of my students. He gave me a good deal and I went for it, not knowing I was going to be the guinea pig - I was his first implant patient and he needed me to practice on ! I've had them for 10 years, which is the length they were guaranteed to last and they are still going strong. In the long run, I'm glad I got them in. Biting and chewing feels much more natural than some clamp on job and easier to keep clean.

If you get them done, make sure you keep the gums very healthy, otherwise an infection is a real problem. As for your concern for the pain, dentists are light years ahead of where they were 10 years ago.

I have complete dental implants... see my avatar? When I got them I was numbed up and except for gum soreness they did not hurt. Expensive and very worth it. They are just like natural teeth but do not decay.
