I just got my braces tightened today, &I was instructed to wear a rubber band on the right side of my mouth only. I was wondering why do I only have to wear it on "one" side of my mouth & what is the purpose of wearing rubber bands with your braces?

I go to the dentist once or twice a year, but I think it's been like 8 months since I got a cleaning. I can't remember if it hurts or not? My teeth are sensitive because I was bulimic for a long time (not any more though) I'm going tomorrow to get them cleaned, but does it hurt?

well today it came off. i had braces for 3 years and its been about 4 years since ive had them off. so ive had the permanent retainer since then. I cant really rememvber what my ortho said but i do remember him saying as long as im 21 years old or older when it comes off than its okay. im 22 right now. It doesnt bother me that its gone. its just it feels weird behind my teeth like they need to be smoothed out. should i go to the dentist?

I was at the dentist today for the first time in 8 years, and it actually wasn't half as bad as I expected, I only have a few cavities which will need fillings, but he said I have a lot of plaque build up on my teeth and I need a "deep cleaning" - what does that mean and what does it involve? I think he said something about root scaling???? I can't really remember properly!!

Here's the backstory: Woke up one morning to find that what had previously been a tiny cavity (was going to get it filled in Feb), had chipped off and now there was a gigantic hole in the tooth. Made an appointment with my dentist today. She kept scraping at the tooth, finding more and more soft parts, and kept asking me, "Are you SURE this tooth hasn't given you any problems?" I said no, it hadn't hurt at all. And then she said that the nerve was exposed and that she was going to have to give me a temporary filling. She actually SHOWED me the nerve that she removed. So, I went to pay for the procedure and schedule my appointment for the root canal, when the receptionist said that the worst of it was over. I thought that was odd, so she said that the first part of the root canal was always the toughest, and the second appointment would be easier. I thought that removing the nerve & the temporary filling was just to hold me UNTIL the root canal. Anyone have any opinions about this?

I'm 22 years old, and i've been aware of this problem since I was about 13. I've never drempt of my wedding day like most little girls- I've always drempt about the day when my jaw would be corrected. It's not a minor proplem, it's pretty dramatic, and well noticeable...SOOO I'm excited to be getting it done in a few months, but would love some input from people who have had it or seen it done..What happens when you leave the opp. room? I hear its well worth it, and i'm prepared for the worst. Please just support guys :)

2. I may never bite properly again.
3. I wont be able to eat solid foods for about 4-6 mos.

I had my tooth extracted yesterday and I can barely open my mouth to eat. How long does it usually take before you can open your mouth up? I can barely eat. There is no pain just limited jaw movement.

I took my friend to the ER for a infection in a tooth that has spread into her ear.She has no heath insurance and is not able to work due to some health issues. They got us into the treatment room and was going to give her something and he said oh I see u have no insurance so you will have to pay $130.00 up front. Since she has no money or insurance they just told her they could not treat her. Something about a new law and the hospitals in Fl were doing that. I never heard of such a thing and if it's true what a shame our health care is coming to this. Since when can a hospitla deny health care? It's not like she goes to the ER every week. She does not go there very often and when she goes in for extreme pain they turn her away.....Im angry about this and feel this is just wrong.
