I just got my braces tightened today, &I was instructed to wear a rubber band on the right side of my mouth only. I was wondering why do I only have to wear it on "one" side of my mouth & what is the purpose of wearing rubber bands with your braces?

You're lopsided. The only reason you wouldn't have the same thing going on for both sides is If your teeth aren't centered or they aren't in the same place on both sides.

I'm sure this won't go on for too long. Sooner or later your teeth will be symmetrical.

Rubber bands work to pull teeth continuously.

Rubber bands are used for moving your jaw. wearing the rubber band on one side of your mouth will shift your jaw to that side so your teeth line up better.
