Calcium is good for maintaining strong teeth and bones (that hold the teeth in place). Vitamin C is good for skin and gum tissue!! The reason for this is because vitamin C is an antioxident which helps to ward of free radicals that attack soft tissue!! It is free radicals that are partially responsible for the aging process!! I suggest you take a regular vitamen C supplement even if you eat a healthy balanced diet because Vitamin C is water soluable and is also easily destoyed. So there is nothing wrong with taking some extra!! There is no need to go for the really expensive ones as the cheaper own brand makes are just as effective! As for calcium as long as you are drinking approximately 200ml of milk a day (i.e. the amount you use on cereal) I shouldn't think you need a supplement because calcium is also found in some vegetables and other food products too, other than diary products!!

I don't know what is wrong with your gums, eg, if you have a mouth ulcer you will need to treat it different to a vitamin deficiency, using something like rinsted jell, but vitamin C is important for healthy gums skin etc. Vitamin E promotes healing. You need all the vitamins for good health in the right proportion.
Perhaps you could ask your dentist or doctor if you have a real problem.

Vitimin C.

Lack of vitimin C can lead to scurvy - which was suffered by sailors many years ago on board ship with no access to fresh fruit and veg. Someone stubled accross the association and gave the sailors limes to eat - which is why the Americans call the Brits Limeys.
