I visited the dentist for a check up yesterday for a cavity. I haven't been to the dentist in about 3 years. The hygenist had cleaned my teeth and it was very painful. I don't remember it ever being so painful. My gums were bleeding ALOT and they had told me thats a sign of gum dease? I mean it hurt alot that I almost started crying because of the pain. Now, the next day, I still have blood around my gums. They've never bled before (when brushing) and I brush twice a day. He also says I should get one of my teeth replaced because it's a baby tooth that never had a tooth below it and that it is "unrepairable" though it causes no pain to me and has no decay just a cavity. Replacement: $3,000. I haven't gone to the dentist in some time because I never believe what they say and I think most of them are scammers. Is a cleaning suppose to hurt this bad? Should my teeth still be sore a day later? Should I see another dentist?

I can barely stand to kiss my new "friend" because of his breath. I can't bring myself to say anything to him so I was thinking of leaving this note along with mouthwash, a tongue scraper, a new toothbrush and maybe some floss. Here is the note:

I’ve tried subtle hints but they didn’t work and there is no nice way to say this so I’m just going to come out with it.
You seriously need to instill some better hygiene habits into your day.
Ultimately you need to see a dentist and I know you know that but in the mean time please do your best to use these products. A tongue scraper can do wonders for the breath (hint hint). Enjoyment of future kisses depends on it. If nothing else please try of respect for me.

Would you be offended by this? If so, what would you add or change?

It has taken me over 2 months to get a root canal finished. The dentist was pregnant. I of course could see this but what I didn't know was that she was ready to deliver. She went into labor while she was doing my root canal. I had my tooth stuffed with cotton and given an appointment to come back a month later. Well the cotton had to be replaced 2 times before this. Then comes time for the appointment to finish this procedure. Well it got cancelled by the dentist 15 minutes before the appointment, I was sitting in front of the office when they called. So finally i get back into the dentist to put a temorary cap.The assistant tells me it will take a week before the can put on the permanat then tells me to come back in 3 days. I come back well they cant do it for another week. I go back a week later they take off the temporary cap which is very painful and without anthesure then they say my gums are recieding so they cant finish. Wait another week I go back. And still we dont finish.

Whats wrong with my jaw? Its happened since I was young but progressively gotten worse, It never started hurting until recently, now my upper row of teeth kind of feel pressure when it happens, and I feel like my jaw is constantly tired, or that it doesn't sit properly.

I've had my dentures (full set) since 2004. I only take them out to soak/brush them and clean my mouth. (I do that 3 times a day.) Since I use Polident 5-Minute tablets, I only have my teeth out about 30min a day. I even sleep in them. My gums appear healthy. Is this a safe practice?

I had all four wisdom teeth removed August 3rd and was wondering when it would be appropriate to use a straw again. Also, when am I able to actually "chew" food. I'm thinking of hamburgers and grilled cheeses and stuff like that...anything other than mashed potatoes and applesauce! Thanks!

I have a tooth that has been filled and it is very painful to put anything cold in my mouth right in that area. I know I have to get back to the dentist, but I just wanted to hear opinions of what it could be. Thanks!

I'm an 18 year old from Scotland and a couple of years ago my dentist suggested getting braces as my teeth aren't perfect, but ok. Now I'm thinking about it again, and need more info. What are they like?

I have a stupid question, if I have oral thrush, and being treated for it, can I still do oral sex or will it make the infection worse? If not how long after starting treatment can I start again? I got oral thrush from taking antibotics.

I have put this in the dental catagory because I work in a dental office and I hope to get answers from some dental professionals. I had a patient today that I recognized as a patient that had recently complained about the dentist. He was unaware that she had complained so I told the office manager that I was going to tell him about this patients complaint. She started being mean and snotty to me, telling me why cant I just keep my mouth shut and stay out of it. I told her that I didnt appriciate her talking to me that way and I walked out. Twenty minutes later the doctor took me to the managers office and told me I owed her an apology for the disrespectful way I talked to her. I said no, I dont owe her one, she was mean and nasty to me and I had every right to defend myself. We ended up straightening the mess out and she actually appologized to me, but I want to know if I had the right to defend myself to her against her nasty treatment, even though she is my superior?

Every day on the way home from work I pass a place that has "GENTLE DENTISTRY" in large print on their sign. What does that mean, exactly? Is that just advertising or is gentle dentistry different from "regular" dentistry that I am used to?
