Don't eat any thing chewy or sticky. Watch out for anything that's crunchy. Cut your apples into small wedges, don't crack ice cubes with your teeth, don't chew meat from the bone; cut or tear it from the bone, stay away from hard breads, don't suck on lemons or limes, don't bite your fingernails, avoid most candy (I'll tell the patients that reeces cups are okay because they're pretty soft) , watch out for crunchy pizza crust, don't chew on your pens or pencils, try to substitute desserts for fruit, stay away from food and drinks that are high in sugar content, no crunchy peanut butter.......
If you do eat or drink something sweet (cake, pie, sodas)
brush immediately after wards. You don't want sugar sitting on those teeth! Just use your best judgment sweetie! You'll do great!
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO BRUSH AND FLOSS!
We don't want white spots on those teeth!
THE REASON we have these rules are because, if you are constantly having brackets pop off, loose bands, and distorted wires it WILL keep you in your braces longer than necessary.
I'm proud of you for wanting to do what your supposed too!

Honestly, I had braces for 2 years and there is nothing that you can't eat. They tell you these things so that you don't have complications with your braces. I was eating a mentos candy once and popped one of my brackets off. it's not a big deal if this happens but the foods that you do eat, if they are harder types of candy or food like chips and apples, if possable, cut it into bite size pieces and if it's not possable then just be careful when you eat it. Some type of gum can get tangled in your braces as well so it's more or less a trial-and-error experience. When they start moving your teeth they will be too sensitive to eat any solid foods anyway. It's not ALL a good experience but I personally missed mine when they took them off. So, good luck. any questions i'm on yahoo under bud_light_girl18

Do a search on the Internet, google or Yahoo or one of the others you should find a list pretty quickly.
Personally I ate everything that I ate when I didn't have braces, biting into carrots is harder and use to break of the pieces just about every month. Just stay away from really sticky foods and ones that you have to bite deep into, like carrots but you should be able to eat everything, just in a different way.

My dentist told me not to eat popcorn(though I still did), whole apples(not sliced), caramel or any other hard sticky candy, corn on the cob(has to be cut off) and I can't think of any more. You'll find that if you bite into something like a fruit or a sandwich that it will get stuck really easily which is annoying, but you'll get a brush tool that will be able to clean between them. Good luck!

I ate everything when I had braces. There were some times when i could not eat hard solids because they tightened them and my teeth got sore. You have to be carefull chewing hard candy because you can pop a bracket off but your dentist will know how to fix that.

gum is fine as long as its sugarless and dont eat ice! i wouldnt bite into anything, it doesnt hurt but you'll get food all stuck in your braces. if u want corn or apples or something like that make sure you cut the apples into pieces and take the corn off the cob

Gum, taffy, apples that aren't cut up, and peanut brittle were the things I remember the most not being able to have while I had braces, but it was a long time ago.

They say lots of things but some you really can have and there are things not on there you shouldnt. You really have to find out for yourself. Your not suppose to have chips, gum, carmel or chewy candy, ice and you should always have toast (gooey bread in brackets) and you should cut off corn on the cob. Things like these.

corn, pop corn, crunchy things. Gum, peanut butter, nuts, hard candy other stuff. It sucks big time. There are hundreds of stuff you can't eat. Just enjoy it now.
Although, most people eat alot of the stuff anyways. Like sneak in a peice of gum. ;P
