I had all four wisdom teeth removed August 3rd and was wondering when it would be appropriate to use a straw again. Also, when am I able to actually "chew" food. I'm thinking of hamburgers and grilled cheeses and stuff like that...anything other than mashed potatoes and applesauce! Thanks!

Usually dentists/oral surgeons would give you information about such things (eating/drinking after tooth extraction).

Generally - you should be able to eat soft food/drink fluids later that day - often they will advise you to avoid hot foods and hot drinks.

Let me see what I can dig up for more specifics.

I DIDN'T use straw when I had mines removed, but now that I'm thinking about it its a good idea. Though I did just fine drinking lemonade the normal way.
Chewing burgers shouldn't be a problem after 2-3 days, but I warn you that it won't be completly painless, you might have bread stuck in the empty holes of ur teeth.

I'd skip the straw until at least 10 - 12 days post op., as for eating....if you can eat it without pain then you can have it cookie!!!! I was eating raw carrots about 3 days after I had mine out......just be careful and chew with your front teeth and make sure nothign get stuck in the sockets (holes) left from the teeth coming out.

I'd wait on the straw thing for awhile. I thought I was ok to use one after 4 or 5 days, but ended up with dry sockets and an infection because of it. It took months of treatment to fix.

Are you looking for a different opinion than your dentist's?
Or did you have them removed in a back street alleyway?
Duh - go ask the person who removed them for you!!!!!!

Each person heals differently. I was back to normal eat/drinking within about 3 days! Others take much longer to be able to eat/drink as normal.

It depends on the person. I had "dry rot" because I smoked a cigarette afterwards so it took a couple of weeks for me to get back to normal.
