Yep! I would go to a competent Licensed Massage Therapist ('cause I am one!). The reason I say competent is because some LMTs are rather heavy handed and follow the "no pain no gain" rule. I don't agree with that; especially when working in and around the mouth. A firm yet gentle touch is best. When your friend goes for treatment be sure they get thorough work on the shoulders, front and back of the neck, head and inside and outside of the jaw and mouth.
There are many modalities of body work that would be beneficial: CranioSacral Therapy, NMT, Myofascial work, to name a few. Just be sure the person is licensed and has experience.
Massage is the least invasive way to treat TMJ problems. I would start there to get relief. Good Luck!

my dentist made a special mouth piece for me to wear while i was sleeping.........it is a type of plastic that fits right on your teeth, it is suppose to keep you from grinding your teeth at night.
