I have a tooth that has been filled and it is very painful to put anything cold in my mouth right in that area. I know I have to get back to the dentist, but I just wanted to hear opinions of what it could be. Thanks!

Could be exactly what you say - lost filling.
Where is the sensitive area?
If it's the whole tooth that appears sensitive- lost filling, or you got a crack in the tooth, or the filling "leaks" i.e. it is no longer in good contact with the tooth and some bacteria got underneath and is having party there.
If the filling is brand-new - the tooth may be takng time to heal up where the work was done.
If it's the side of the tooth that's sensitive - you may be having a receeding gum.

If you lost a filling, you would likely have felt it in your mouth after it fell out. If not, then you could feel the spot where the filling was. That is how most people know about losing fillings. Pain with cold is a confirming sign that something is going on.

Call your dentist back and ask. He should of told you it will be sensitive for a coulpe of days. It may also be that you have another tooth that needs filling next to it. The cold could be hitting another tooth and you are thinking its the one just filled.

If you have a (what might feel like the grand canyon) hole in your tooth, I would say you've lost a filling. However if you just had the tooth filled, it could still be healing itself. Sometimes they can be sensitive for a while.

Hi,,, sometimes,,, after a tooth has been filled ,,, it takes a few days for the nerve to settle down... the heat and cold will set it off to hurting again.....
I would consider taking some antibiotics... for a week or so... and maybe a pain pill or two... until it quits this.....
Otherwise.... you will need a root canal,,,, and a crown..... on the tooth......

maybe its just a sensitive tooth.... when u lose a filling, there is a hole there... you can feel it with ur tongue
