My 8 year old daughter came home from school today really upset. They'd been doing an exercise about teeth and they had to look in each others' mouths and draw on a diagram where there were fillings or missing teeth etc. Anyway, apparently some of her classmates were making fun of her because she has quite a few fillings, I think she has 5 or maybe 6.

Don't all kids have fillings? I know I've always had a mouthful of them since I was really young, I thought it was pretty much a part of growing up.

If a tooth hurts when you eat sweet stuff, is it always because of a cavity?

My youngest daughter (4yrs) spat out her chocolate pudding tonight and said it hurt her tooth. I had a look in her mouth but I can't see anything wrong. She's had a couple of fillings done before and she's scared she'll need another one now. Is it always a cavity if a tooth hurts when you eat sweet stuff? Or could it be something else?

I know I need to take her to the dentist, but we're not registered with one just now and I can't find one to take us on the NHS and I can't afford to go private.

I've had TMJ for almost 10 years now. The clicking never used to bother me, but recently it is. I have pain on my right upper jaw. It's very annoying when it clicks when I have to eat and open jaw wider to accomodate the food. I do wear a night gaurd when I'm sleeping, but I don't think that can fix the problem. How can I truly fix this problem over time and why does caffeine play a role in it?

Have you ever chewed gum for so long that it became a liquidy form? That is what just happened to mine.
What do you do when it happens? Swallow? I mean, you can't really spit it out without someone thinking you are vomitting!

I've had a toothache all day in a tooth that I got a filling in about a month ago. It's not a REALLY bad toothache, but it's pretty sore, but unfortunately I'm 250 miles away from my dentist right now.

The tooth got a fairly big filling in it about a month ago and it was sore for a week or so after but then settled down and has been fine until today.

What's likely to be wrong with the tooth? Did the dentist not get all the decay out or something? Will I need a root canal now? What should I do now since I'm so far away from my dentist?
