I've got a couple of teeth with pretty big holes in them, they've been there for a while but I'm terrified of the dentist so I've not gone. But they're starting to hurt quite a lot. Before they just hurt occasionally and I could keep sweet food off them, but now they hurt most of the time and I've been taking painkillers regularly for the past couple of weeks.

I know I need to go to the dentist, but I'm absolutely terrified. I had a bad experience when I was younger and they tried to do a filling without numbing me first and it was agony. That's why I haven't gone back. I'm so scared about getting more fillings, but I'm worried that I've left these teeth too long and they might need to be extracted. Is that likely? Or will they be able to save them with big fillings?

I went to the dentist yesterday and found out I need some fillings in my back teeth which I expected, but the dentist says I've got cavities on the back of two of my front teeth that I need to get filled as well. I didn't even know you could get cavities on your front teeth - how does that happen?

What happens when you need to get a filling in a front tooth? Does it hurt more than other fillings? Does your tooth still look the same after or can you see the filling in it?

I'm only 14 but my teeth are really bad. I went to the dentist all the time when I was little, but then we moved house and my mum never registered us with another dentist. I went a few weeks ago cos I got toothache and the dentist said my teeth are quite bad and I need lots of fillings. And the other day I had a REALLY bad toothache but I couldn't go to the dentist so I took lots of painkillers and now the tooth doesn't hurt, my mum says it's probably dead and I'll need to get it pulled out or get a root canal.

I don't eat that much sweets or chocolate though and I only drink diet soda. And I brush my teeth every day. So how come my teeth are so rotten? How can I stop from needing more fillings?

I've got 5 kids, none of them have great teeth but my youngest was complaining about toothache the other day and I managed to get an appointment at the clinic this morning.

Anyway, the dentist there said her teeth were in a really bad state, she needs a lot of work done on them - some need fillings or caps, and he wants to extract some as well. He says it would be better for her to go to the hospital and have everything done under general anaesthetic, but I'm really worried about putting her under - she's only 4.

My other kids have handled fillings alright just with injections, but they haven't ever needed as much done as my youngest does.

Has anyone else had their kid put to sleep for dental work? Or should I try to get the work done just with local anaesthetic?

I had a really bad toothache a few days ago but I couldn't get a dentist appointment so I just took lots of painkillers and used ice on the tooth. I've got a dentist appointment on Monday when I'm supposed to be getting some fillings done anyway, but the toothache has gone now.

My mum says it's because the tooth has died and I'll probably need to get it pulled out. Is that true? Can't I just keep the tooth even if it is dead? It's one of my back teeth on the bottom, it got a filling in it a few years ago but it was fine until the other day.

Also, I have to get quite a lot of fillings done and I'm really scared. I know you can take some medicines to make you less scared, how would I get them? I'm only 14. Would they let me take them?

Had large lower back tooth surgically removed after a very painful attempt at normal extraction. 3 weeks later I still have Dry Socket, and my Jaw Bone is raw and not healed, regularly going to Dentist to be packed but I am not seeing or feeling any improvement. Could it be the root which was left in by error.

This root is also filled with silver from previous root filling treatment.
Feeling desperate.

I would like to have a baby. I am 33 years and two years ago an implant was put into my mouth for I have never had my 5th tooth. I wonder if a pregnancy can have negative impact on my bones and gums and if may cause problems with implant. There are different opinions. What do you think? Adriana

I think I might be allergic to whatever my dentist used on me today. I had to have a filling, and she gave me two shots because it was on the top. When I left the office, my cheek was swollen, my mouth on one side was drooping, and the entire side of my face was basically paralyzed (I could blink, but I couldn't squint or move my nose). I had trouble hearing from that side as well. The paralyzation is gone (it left 5 hours later) but my cheek is still swollen and part of my face is still numb. The tooth doesn't hurt at all, but it's like I have a knot in my cheek, and it hurts (and is difficult) to open my mouth or touch my face. Is this normal?
