Had large lower back tooth surgically removed after a very painful attempt at normal extraction. 3 weeks later I still have Dry Socket, and my Jaw Bone is raw and not healed, regularly going to Dentist to be packed but I am not seeing or feeling any improvement. Could it be the root which was left in by error.

This root is also filled with silver from previous root filling treatment.
Feeling desperate.

I have had an X-ray and have a bit of broken root left in socket. Is it safe to leave in jaw, also it has silver from root filling in the root. Dentist does not think this is a problem but in 4th week of dry socket now. What do you think?

Have you been back to the same dentist every time? Please go to another dentist for 2nd opinion. Even though it can take a while for the area to recover, what I am concerned with is the silver root tip left in the socket. Trust your instinct, if you don't feel any better by now, you should go somewhere else.

If the root can not be taken out,it means it is too far deep in you jaw.Over the years it Will make it's way out.It will not harm you in any way. Some people live with bulets in their body, your own root won't kill you.You can't have dry socket for 3 weeks. The hole you see is place of your tooth and your body is taking time to fill it in.when they do a surgical extraction, some of your jaw bone gets drilled out.just be patient.

have they taken any xrays to check to make sure they got it all out? That would be my first step. I had roots left in my gum from a tooth being broken and it was very sore and got infected.
