you have to constantly use it
it has to be a part of your daily brushing, switching it would not be good

"Whitening" is a cosmetic claim and not a therapeutic claim and it is, therefore, not regulated by anyone. MOST toothpastes say that they whiten teeth by keeping them clean. Read the box. SOME toothpastes actually have peroxide or other chemicals to alter the tooth to make it whiter. Many of those toothpastes, however, seem to be associated with causing sensitive teeth. Read the box carefully and see why they are claiming to be whitening toothpastes and make an informed choice.

Whitening ingredients are all the rage in toothpaste nowadays and the work some but not real well. They can irritate the mouth. For really strong whitening you have to buy special products or even get some from the dentist. After all they can't put real strong stuff in toothpaste that everyone uses, even babies.

Whitening toothpastes can only whiten by removing surface staining (from coffee, tea). They can't whiten the inside of your tooth which is what most people want. This can only be done by whitening strips (crest whitestrips) or professional whitening treatments. Beware, whitening toothpastes are usually more abrasive (because they polish to remove stain) and they can cause sensitivity in some people.

A commercial bluff
All commercials are like that. They say things to entice cuatomers/buyers. After buying it, you realized it's not doing what it says it should do.
