ok, so i know that vegetarian are people who dont eat meat ONLY.

and vegans are people who dont consume anything that has to do with animals right ?

so including milk which gives protein
and meat which gives you energy..

do you have anger ?
and do you feel weak all the time ?

I've been considering and sampling a vegetarian diet. I've tried the faux meat products out there and find them a delicious and close---in some cases perfect---match to their meaty counterparts. But during a conversation with some co-workers today, the subject came up of how healthy these meatless alternatives really were. They speculated that in order to get them to taste like meat, veggie dogs and the like must filled with countless preservatives and additives...thereby making them very UNhealthy. While I would love to incorporate these tasty treats into a vegetarian diet (if I so choose that route) I worry that their concerns might have a ring of truth to them. In the pursuit of a juicy soyburger, would I be exposing myself to a host of unhealthy chemicals?

Oh, a slightly off-topic p.s. When I brought up tofu as a good alternative, another co-worker claimed that it causes breast cancer because it's estrogen based or something like that. Feel free to clue me in on that too.

I feel really tired and depressed and I don't know why. I have been sleeping a lot lately. I don't go anywhere and I just stay cooped up inside all day. When I do go out, people are mean to me and always say negative things. It is like they hate me because I am vegan and I am trying to the right thing with my life.

Anyone who has been a vegetarian or vegan for longer than a minute has indeed encountered the following:

1) So, what DO you eat?

2) But, don't plants have feelings too?

3) Real men eat meat.

4) But how do you get enough protein?

...and a classic:

5) If God did not want us to eat animals why did he make meat so TASTY ???

Focus on one or take a shot at all of them. Also, feel free to add your own uninformed statement if I forgot any. Responding to these statements in a serious manner is easy-as-pie, but being able to discuss a serious subject with humor is a real gift. 10 points to the response that makes me (or the voters if it goes to voting) laugh the hardest. Thanks!

I'm having my vegetarian relatives for Christmas. My husband and I will not be eating meat that day either. So does anyone have a good suggestion of what I can make.

I want it to be something like one main dish with a few side dishes of veggies, salad and rolls. The main dish is what I am concerned about. I want it to be an easy no fuss meal. Something I can make ahead of time would be great. I'm not crazy about cooking on holidays so I would like some ideas on something easy but tasty that I can make that could be a tradition each year.

There will be six people at the table. The vegetarians eat dairy and eggs but noting with chicken or beef broth nor anything with jello in it. On of them wont eat fish but they all like mushrooms, cheese and pasta.

I've had a bag of frozen peas that I bought on impulse and haven't used yet. What is a great recipe you'd reccomend, that you've actually tried? Please no dairy or eggs.

My son, age 11, seriously decided to become a vegetarian this year. He's been OK for a few months now, but lately he's been feeling like it's so hard and getting discouraged about his strength to keep resisting. I can't help him because I have no interest in becoming vegetarian.

Does anyone have any advice for him to "hang in there"? He keeps thinking about all of the foods he enjoyed that he can no longer have (Orange Chicken from Panda Express, Popcorn Shrimp, Fish Sticks, etc) but he is really against harm to animals. He's getting really down about it. I completely support him and tell him that he can do it, but as an omnivore I'm not really effective.

I've recently become a vegetarian[within the past 3 months] and everyone keeps telling me i'm crazy and don't believe that i've been able to do so. I was talking about becoming a vegetarians months before i actually did, beacause i had to make sure my mom would still buy food that i would be able to eat. And then one day, i decided no more meat. and that was that. [ and i never liked fish anyway so that was easy]
