It sounds like you've raised a compassionate daughter who realizes that wild animals weren't meant to spend their lives pacing around cages for the sake of human entertainment. I would be very proud to have such an empathetic child.

She feels as I do, it is not good to cage them and put them on display. I can't stand fish tanks either. I would love to see all zoos go away. I know some of these animals would be dead if not for the zoos but I think they are there for someone elses gain and it's bad carma for all of us that participate and allow it. My 2 cents, she is a sensative person and will always be feeling other creatures and peoples feelings. It's not an easy place to be but I am grateful for the ability as it is a blessing many times more than it's a curse.

She has been traumatized. It is not pretty.
Some people think they are doing their children a favor and they are not.
My son went fishing with my dad, and fell in love with the fish before they could get home and clean it. He cried like a baby.
I wanted to raise him vegetarian from that day and was outvoted. Later on, we did go that way a while, and now as adult, he is back eating meat.

She probably knows that she would hate to spend the rest of her life locked in her bedroom and assumes the animals must feel the same. You just can't provide the same comforts or life styles to some thing thats not in its natural environment. Very smart girl.

She is horrified by it because she knows it is morally and ethically wrong, but you should explained to her that most animals in zoos would be killed by poachers if in the wild. You should take her to a wild life reservation where animals are allowed to have freedom.

Because people have gotten all whiny and p.c. about zoo's and crap. They are animals, you can not deny that basic fact. They can not reason, they do not have rationale minds. They are not sad and most don't have a clue that they aren't in the wild anyways.
I know I'm going to get bashed on this, so go ahead, slam me and prove that you have no room for someone who disagrees with you. I love animals and I love going to the zoo. But people are ruining it by screwing up kids minds so they are terrified when their parent tries to spend a nice family day with them.

I don't like to see animals caged either, I say let the animals go home, and put the human animals in their vacant cages.

She's just ignorant. Animals in zoos and aquariums live much longer lives in captivity than they would in the wild. Matter of fact, zoos and aquariums have helped the population of several species of endangered animals. There are veterinarians nearly always available on call if something is wrong, the animals are well fed and people make careers out of being animal caretakers in such places.

What is your question? Why is she horrified? Because she has compassion that many people don't. Ask her why it horrifies her. She knows better than any of us.
