its gonna be really hard if you love meat and want to be a vegetarian. however, if you really want to be one then start little. try eating something small at once like limiting your meat consumtion to twice a week rather than everyday. then instead of eating red meat, eat chicken instead. and then substitute that with seafood like fish or other seafood. they taste just like meat, but healtier.

Very simple, you were brought up eating it, so it won't be easy, especially with your family (they'll likely really bug you about not eating your meat). But, for me, the more I read about meat animal products the more I looked at what I ate differently, right? The more you educate yourself, the more your brain will make new connections. Not to mention, that once you have stopped eating it for awhile, then you try it again, it will taste very different from before. If meat tasted so good then steak sauce would never have been invented, or HP sauce, or all that other crap people put on or in their meat. People's taste buds are so overwhelmed by the regular high salt and high sugar and high junk food content in the regular person's diet that they really cannot taste much of anything. I know, because after about a year (yeah, took a year, takes some much longer) for my pallet to start to open up. By that I mean, I could actually eat things without adding salt, sugar, sauce, etc. I could actually taste the food for what it is and not just for the added flavours etc. You get the idea... I say quit all junk foods and all animal products all chemical ingredients etc. and you will see a difference.

First of all, you should visit peta's website www.peta.com and check out some stuff. If you want to stop eating meat gradually, give up chicken and turkey first. You will save more lives that way, and they are generally the most abused of all animals.
I know it's hard to be a vegetarian in a family of meat-eaters. I went veg when I was in middle school. But you will learn there are tons of easy things for you to make for yourself.
Try some of the veggie chicken nuggets and veggie burgers. Morningstar farms' Buffalo Wings and Mini corn dogs are delish. Have your dad grill you a veggie burger when they have steak or burgers. I'm 26 and live away from home, but my daddy still buys me Boca Burgers to keep at home, just in case. :)
Being a vegetarian is a great thing, health wise, but more importantly you are saving animals and the environment.

I used to think that I would miss meat, but one day I got so disgusted by it that I decided that day to go vegetarian. That was almost six years ago, and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I went vegan a few months later.
So check out www.vegweb.com. It has recipes and resources, including online shopping sites.
www.happycow.net lists vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants and health food stores all over the world. www.vegdining.com just has restaurants.
Many vegetarian groups have starter guides. Check out www.cok.net.
There are tons of analogues out there. If you don't like one type of veggie burger, try another. Amy's Texas Burger is my favorite, but I don't care for her All-American Burger. And I'm not at all a fan of Boca, but I'll eat it. Tofu is an acquired taste/texture, and you will learn to like it. Gardenburger has many varieties of veggie burgers, and they also have veggie Riblets that are pretty good. I think if you eat less meat, you'll eventually start losing your taste for it and enjoying the analogues more.
For the wannabe veg*ans and those who love meat but want to reduce their intake, I always recommend "The Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes Cookbook" by Robin Robertson. It has lots of hearty recipes designed to fill you up.
And even if you just reduce your meat consumption (whether you eat it less often or use it just as a condiment), that's still a step in the right direction.
Good luck!

Just do everything gradually. I think this plan could possibly work
Week 1: Change your breakfast. Use soy milk instead of regular milk. Eggbeaters instead of real eggs.
Week 2: Change your lunch. Veggie burgers. Textured vegetable protein (Morningstar Meal Starters tastes okay, even my daughter didn't notice it wasn't real ground meat). One meatless dish I like a lot is black beans, spanish rice with some sour cream (I still do some dairy products). And with a couple corn tortillas and a piece of fruit.
Week 3: Change your dinner. Try vegetarian recipes.
Remember it really just takes about 21 days to make a change. If you fall off the wagon, just jump right back in!

Some mushroom burgers have meat. Maybe you could have more of those garden burgers. Amy's veggie burgers are outstanding. They have them at Wild Oats (don't know if you have that near you). If you stop eating McDonald's burgers a lot for example, you'll be surprised that you'll not be tempted to eat them. I am still working on a better diet to this day. I want to move away from chocolate milk and cookies. Still, too much coffee. It's a constant battle of the will, but, it's worth it...

I want to become a vegetarian too but it's hard because I honestly don't know what else to eat. (As in a main course) But what I am doing is if there are other choices besides meat then I'll eat that but if only meat is available I will eat it. I prefer to eat chicken or any poultry if there are no non-meat main courses or whatever. Sometimes I will eat chicken for lunch or dinner but that's really all we have. LOL. I think it's easier once you are old enough and move out. ;)

Yes be a vegetarian. You will feel better and better every day. Being a vegetarian is the first step in showing compassion to all the animals. It saves the planets and it is good for your health. Eating is a habit like everything else and if you start to train yourself you will get there.
I myself am a vegetarian for 15 years and I feel great every day knowing no creature has to die to keep me alive.
Good luck.
Check out this website on your free time. Maybe it will give you the motivation to stick with the vegetarian diet.

I had the same problem...try just lowering your intake of meat, then after a while, you can just stop eating meat all together.
This is actually what you should do when you first become a vegetarian because if you just all of a sudden stop eating meat, then you could get sick because your body isn't used to not having any meat.
Another thing, after the first couple of weeks of not eating meat, it gets alot easier. It just becomes a way of life that you get used to.
