i'm already vegetarian and my mom thinks that i don't eat enough protein and nutrition as it is. so i've been thinking about being a vegan, it was just a thought but i'm not sure if i could do it considering that i have been losing weight and my size two jeans are big on me! i feel uncomfortable eating anything that comes from an animal though. whta do you think and what are some good things that i could eat and stay healthy if being a vegan?

right now the only tofu i have is extra firm, so if you could think of something good (and healthy. . . and without beans) I would be very happy :D
Thanks!

I want to go vegetarian for a month. I have always wanted to go vegetarian but I never had the guts or time to try it. I am not sure if I will be aloud to though. I only want to do it for a month to see how it is...if I like it I will continue. What should I do if my mom says no?

soy is not what people are ment to eat, if we were intended to eat it, it would taste good by itself with out prosesing, it is unhealthy in the long run

I recently decided to be a vegetarian. The problem is that I find it close to impossible to get a lunch at school without meat in it unless I bring it myself. I've already gotten sick of eating peanut butter and jelly everyday and need something new to eat. Any ideas on what I can bring with me to eat? Keep in mind that there isn't any way I could heat things up with and that I'm lactose intolerant. Small amounts of cheese is ok.

He's allergic to eggs and nuts, and we are a vegetarian family. He hates cheese, milk, formula, soymilk and beans, he even hates pudding and chocolate milk. The only proteins I get get him to eat are soy yogurt and romano cheese(not even parmisan). All he ever wants to eat is fresh fruit, raw veggies and rice. Any suggestions on how I can get him to drink milk or eat dairy? How do I know that he's getting enough protein and calcium?

Don't say "No, because they would scream if they did." Vegetables do not have the proper organs or apparatus to vocalize a response. But scientists have done studies that seem to indicate that vegetables do 'scream' in a manner of speaking, when plucked from the ground.

Are there any health problems you can get if you don't eat meat? For example, anemia?

I'm doing a month-long detox program, that includes one week of a liquid-juice fast, as well as drinking fresh juices everyday for a month. I'm also trying to go as organic as possible, which means that for each glass of juice I make, I've got a cup or more of the left-over fibrous vegetable matter in the juicer...relatively expensive vegetable matter since it's all supposed to be organic! I've never been one to just throw out useful things, so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do with this stuff! I know I can use the applesauce to substitute in baking, but what about carrots, spinach, beets, oranges, tomatoes, etc? My mom suggested that I make soup, but it ends up acting like a thickening agent, and regardless, if I made it all into soup, I'd have a cupboard full of it!

It will be my two-year anniversay as a vegitarian in Febuary. Before when I first told my doctor I was a vegitarian, she expressed concern and suggested I eat at least turkey or chicken, etc. I found no support there and my mom's support is wavering. Any how, I just went to go to the doctor last week and I had bloodwork done, yadda. The doctor said my blood levels or something were low and I needed more portein. She asked if I ate meat and I said "No, I don't but I get vegitaraian recipes and I make sure I get proper nutrition. So she calls my mom into the room and I had to leave but I could hear their conversation. She wanted my mom to start feeding me meat or else she was worried about my health. My mom went grocery shopping last night and she didn't get my vegiatarin food stuff I depend on for protein. Instead it was like meat stuff. I always made sure I ate enough of the food levels I needed. What could I say to my mom? No anniverasy for me. I despise meat!

This came up in a past question, Someone said that a Vegan should feed their dogs vegan food if they are true Vegans. What do you think? Personally I think it's more complex then that. Dog's do fine on a Vegan diet, barring any previous health problems (there is plenty of research on this subject, look it up, I don't want this to become a discustion about dog nutrition.) but if for some reason the dog cannot eat a Vegan diet I think the human Vegan should not get rid of the dog. While I think it's regretable to feed the dog meat, you are better off giving the dog a good home and supporting the meat industry a bit, then to kick out the dog.
Everyone also should understand that we don't have a problem with the dog eating meat exsactly. We have a problem with supporting the meat idsustry. Thoughts?

So I grew up a carnivore. I didnt even know what a vegetarian was until late in my highschool years and always thought it was just something weird or that people did it for religious reasons. Then I had one friend who was, then I suddenly had 5 friends that were...etc etc. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she has never tried to push her beliefs on to me, but she has shared her views and reasons. She great up as a vegetarian. Im quite the animal lover and once I really started looking into it I started to feel like I was only putting my money towards the suffering and abuse of animals that I love. Ive cut beef and pork out of my diet, but I still eat turkey and chicken. My main concern is that Im fairly small. I find it hard to keep weight on and Im scared that if I stop eating animal products I may lose more weight. I just started working out and Im watching what I eat more and more, while cutting back on meat.

Any helpful tips or insight?

I typically eat lots of brown rice usually with beans, peas and/or legumes washed down with either water or juice (usually apple juice-which i usually dilute with water).
Breakfast typically includes whole grain bread with Hummous (meditaranean chick peas spread) with peppers and cucumbers.
I also have red potatoes with olive oil and italian seasoning for either lunch and dinner, again usually accompanied with some kind of beans or legumes.Alternately, I may have whole grain linguini or spaghetti with either ketchup or tomato sauce (i try to stay away from tomatoes though because of allergies)

I would say, what fills me up the most (and probably what I consume most) is Potatoes and rice.

Occasionally, I'll have Tuna or Salmon usually with Bread and vegetables. Even more rarely, I'll have chicken or (very rarely) meat.
So what says you?

Oh and I also take vitamin supplements every day. (B, C Green Tea Tablets, anti allergy formula (quercitin) garlic tablets and saw palmetto.
