What's the sense in flavoring my veggies/tofu with "meat" flavoring if : #1) that flavor is a derivative of the actual ingredient, and #2) one is opposed to eating meat because of the cruelty to the animal factor; would ya want to be reminded of the slaughter as you chew?

I am a vegetarian-have been for about 11/2 years. It works fine, I never feel malnourished or anything. But recently I have been trying to be way more halth-concious-really make sure I am getting balanced nutrients in my diet. I am also trying to lose about 7 lbs. Recently, I started incorporating alot of soy products into my diet- soy milk, tofu. But I just read an article "Is soy bad for you?" It said that soy is known to mess w/ your hormone levels, something I have been observing lately,my mood swings are alot more unexpected, and my menstruation cycle is coming more frequently. The article also said that soy conatins toxins and antinutrients. Another thing it pointed out was that it can mess w/ your thyroid, which is maybe why I can't seem to lose weight (altho it has always been a little tough for me).
I am so worried now. I need protein in my diet, and meat scares me. I don't want to be working hard just to be messing myself up. There is bad in eveyrthing. Am I overreacting?

I've tried a few brands when they were on sale. I like Silk but it can be expensive (well...at least in the inner city of Detroit...) What are some other good brands?

I have quit eating processed foods and eating only organic vegetables and fruit and lean meat (chicken and fish). I cannot beleive how much better I feel, like I was in a bad dream before. Do you think that chemicals in food make you depressed and increase worrying and anxiety? It is like they poison you or something!

I'm a college student looking for an extremely easy, low-fat, good vegetarian cookbook. I am by no means a vegetarian, but I would like to start eating healthier and dropping back on meat consumption. I place emphasis on easy, since time always seems to be a constraint. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, thanks!!

be health conscious? And an eating disorder, bulemia, etc. is one of the most harmful things to do to your body & organs? She became a vegetarian because her husband was but was it more to maintain weight than to be healthy? Doesn't make sense.

I have heard that canned soup and canned vegatables are depleted of a lot of their nutrients by the canning preservation process. also do you think that they have a lot of unwanted chemicals in them?

It saves time that is for sure to pop open a can of soup as opposed to cooking fresh, what is your knowledge about this?

Most vegetarians say they eat only veggies out of choice, not medical necessity. But, in the vegetarian section of the supermarket, there are vegetarian "burgers," "sausages," "bacon," "chicken," and "ham." Soon veggie salmon?

So, why is this? After choosing not to eat meat, do you wish to be reminded?

please explain this to me. Thanks.

It's not sugar, Nutra-sweet, or any of the commercially well-known sweeteners. I had cream cheese frosting made out of it once but can't remember what it was called. It was something healthier than sugar. Also, do you know what would take the consistency of cream cheese but not be dairy based?
