Go to your local health food store and talk to them about it. Do you want to fast or do a cleanse? There isn't a specific time that everyone fasts, if you want to do one near Easter then I'm sure you can : ) A cleanse can be just as good and less painful, cause you still get to eat, but you eat very select foods.
You might want to look into the Master Cleanse, it's supposedly the ultimate cleanse/fast where you drink a concoction of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. You can live off that (and that alone) for a long time. I knew someone who did it for 40 days, but it's recommended for 10 days.
Fasting and cleansing can both be healthy if you do your research first and prepare. You need a few days off work, you'll be very tired and might get sick (like a cold, cause you detoxify your body).

It can be healthy to fast as long as you do it correctly. Easter time is a time when a lot of Christians fast to spend time in reading the bible or praying. Some use the money they saved not eating for a donation to the homeless or food shelter. You can fast for just one meal a day or for several days but be very careful about the length of time, take in plenty of fluids make sure you have a good reason for doing it Diet is not one of them.

I guess the purification factor of the fast would depend on how self-righteous you feel for fasting. That would be determined on the reasons you're fasting. For religious reasons, probably pretty purifying. For cosmetic reasons, I don't know if I'd call it purifying, but maybe satisfying if you get good results.
You could fast for Lent, that's around Easter.

Short term fasts are the most purifying.
The one around Easter is what Catholics do for Lent. ( Which lasts for 40 days).
It is basically no snacking on Fridays and no eating meat. (also true on Ash Wednesday, which is when Lent starts.)
And we also try to give up something for the whole of Lent, not just fridays.....something you really like to eat normally...and you do this for the whole 40 days.
Myself....for the last few years I've been trying to do something different. One year...I gave up meat the whole 40 days...another I did Atkins....
Both were hard for me....since I'm a meat and potatoes girl...
not only do I feel good after...I've usually lost weight....

The best kind of fast is if you still drink tea (herbal) and broth like consomme soup or such. It depends why you are fasting. Is it for detox or because you want to lose weight. Either way the above liquids will help. I found that if you are really hungry and cannot take the hunger pains chew gum....I'm not sure that it is really breaking the fast.
Hope this helps...

Fasting is not healthy! If you drop your calories to 0 for longer than 24 hrs, your body goes into starvation mode. Even dieting for more than 72 hours puts your body into starvation mode. So unless you want to gain weight when you begin to eat normal, I don't recommend fasting!
