Oh, there have been some very confusing answers to this question.
Simple version:

A vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, or anything with gelatine in.
They would, however, eat eggs and all dairy (most of them would go for organic or free range but that is not specified in the general meaning of the word vegetarian)

A vegan will not have anything which was ever part of an animal, so no meat, fish, eggs, dairy, honey, leather, fur, silk, feathers etc.

There are, in fact, several types of vegetarians. The least severe actually eat fish and sometimes even chicken . Then, there are the lacto-ovo vegetarians who eat eggs and dairy products such as milk or cheese, and finally, there are the most severe: the vegans who consume no animal products whatsoever. Some even abstain from honey.

Some vegetarians do, but some don't. There are some families that are strict vegetarians and won't even have cheese because it COMES from cows... I think that's a vegan, though... not quite sure. Anyways, I know a family, they're old friends of my parents, but they wont eat any meat unless it doesn't have a face- like clams. I'm not sure about eggs, though, because, they DO have a face, like while they're growing, but not a visibale one.

Some do. There are different kinds of vegetarians. One that eats eggs is a ovo-vegetarian, one that eats dairy is a lacto-vegetarian, etc.
I used to be a veg that ate eggs, dairy and fish, so I was technically an ovo-lacto-pesco-vegetarian. But I just said "vegatarian" when people asked.

Vegetarians can, but Vegans do not. Vegans do not eat anything that has come from an animal...No cheese, as the milk came from a cow, etc...it is a strict diet...

It seems every vegetarian is different, some eat chicken, but no red meat, some eat no chicken or meat, some eat eggs, some don't, it all depends on what kind of vegetarian you want to be!!!

Of course unless he is vegan. An egg that you eat isn't fertalized so you aren't eating any animal. No harm to any animal if you just eat an egg. Don't worry. An egg is fine.
