Didn't they used to eat them when they were kids? Do the reasons to eat cereal change as you get older?

i used granny smith but it took 1 hr and 30min in stead of the 45min that the recipe said it would. (the recipe did not say what kind of apple to use)

A southern comedian said that cornbread, prepared properly, has to be so salty it sucks every bit of the moisture out of your body.

That may be overstating it, but do any of you -- like the comedian and me -- hate sweetened cornbread, and love "savory" or somewhat salty cornbread? My mom always made cornbread you'd eat primarily with cheese or butter or gravy or meat, and she never put a speck of sweetening in it. To us, that would have just been wrong.

When you answer, let me know whereabouts you grew up. I am curious as to whether this preference is a Southern or a Northern thing.

And by the way, I never heard of the concept of sweet and sour until I was about 25. Thanks.

We always made it from a flour roux, the fat being bacon drippings, many times. After the roux is good and set, we put in a lot of milk. It thickens, and we (we being Southerners with a standard set table) loved that gravy on and beside nearly everything.

Do any Northerners do this?

When I make a curry with cardamon pods, whole cloves and cinnamon sticks etc, is there something I can put them in rather than fishing them out individually at the end cooking?
