Why are there recipes for "penne ala Vodka"? What is the point, exactly? Wouldn't it taste exactly the same without the vodka?

He eats meat, but I don't. I don't mind cooking two versions of the same meal, but I want something that will taste fantastic, but that is not too complicated to prepare (ad doesn't have hard-to-find ingredients!). I'm moving to a different city soon, and I want our last few weekends together to be special.

My grandma use to make this awesome spagetti sauce. It had meatballs and some type of meat that was like a thin steak, it was rolled and tied with string. I have been trying to figuire out what it was, I want to find a recipe for it. But I don't even know what it was.
