Your question is puzzling. But here we go. Normally you would use ricotta/ or cottage cheese in between the layers of pasta; and you would use the mozzarella on top. You could use the cheddar in the layers, or you could top your dish with cheddar and mozzarella, or both in the center. The thing is, you will lose that ricotta taste by omitting it from your recipe, other than that you can do anything you see fit. I usually top my lasagna with cheddar and mozza. Good luck

4 cups of tomato or meat sauce, your choice
1 - 1 1/2 pounds lasagna noodles
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
32 oz. ricotta cheese
2 1/2 lb. Mozzarella cheese
A pinch of dried oregano, thyme, and basil
salt & pepper, to taste
Olive oil to coat the pans
PREP WORK Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and if you are using standard lasagna noodles, bring a pot of water to boil to cook them.

HOW TO MAKE AT HOMEIn a large bowl, mix together the eggs, parmesan cheese, and ricotta cheese and season with salt, pepper, and spices.

Lightly coat the bottom of each pan with oil ( I like to use spray olive oil for this job) and then add a little sauce to coat the bottoms. This is especially important if you are using the no-boil noodles because the sauce will help them cook.

There are no hard and fast rules about the order you add ingredients, but it's basically adding a layer of pasta, some of the ricotta cheese mixture, more sauce, another layer of pasta, some mozzarella cheese, some more ricotta cheese mixture, more sauce and so on until you run out of ingredients.

The ingredients will settle a little bit when you bake the lasagna so build right to the top. Make sure you finish with sauce and if you have any left over, save it for when you are serving.

Cover each pan with some aluminum foil and bake for about 35 to 45 minutes until the center of the lasagna is hot, the cheese is melted, the edges are crisp, and your kitchen smells heavenly.

If you decide to eat the lasagna that day, make sure to let it sit for a least 15 minutes to let the flavors meld. Enjoy! You can change any ingredients that you want and yes you can use cheddar cheese I do all the time.

Brown the beef and drain the grease off. Then add marinara sauce and heat.

In pan, add a little marina sauce at the bottom so the noodles won't stick. Put a layer of uncooked lasagna noodles over that. Then make layers as follows:

Beef/sauce
One type of cheese
uncooked noodles
Repeat until you run out of sauce or room in your pan. I normally do not put noodles as the top of my lasagna, so end with the cheese. Then bake at 350° for 45-60 minutes.

You can do anything you like...it's your lasagna right? I have made it like this before it it turns out gooey and cheezy....yum. I use cheddar cheese in my stuffed shells and on homemade pizza, too. I really like the flavor it adds. Some of the best dishes I have made have been with things that I just added new ingredients to. Just have fun and do whatever you like. And you never know when you will discover your new best recipe that everyone wants you to make because they can't figure out what you put in it to make it taste so good!! Have fun!!!

You can use cheddar in lasagna if you want. Use the mozzarella in the layers, and then mix cheddar and mozzarella on the top. You will get a nice cheddary crust.

where is the lasagna noodles??

lay those noodles on the bottom of the baking pan pour sauce on it, then meat, then cheese. repeat so the cheese is last.

not going to be that great without ricotta cheese though.
