Homemade Applesauce
4 med. apples
3/4 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Peel, core, and cut up apples. Put cut-up apples, sugar, cinnamon, and water in pan. Cover and cook at medium heat (simmering) for 15-20 minutes. Let apples cool, then mash unless you like it chunky.

Applesauce Recipe Print Options Print (no photos) Print (with photos) Preparation time: 45 minutes. Ingredients 3 to 4 lbs of peeled, cored, and quartered apples. We use granny smith, fuji, or gravenstein apples, or a combination of all three. (Make sure you use a good cooking apple.) 4 strips of lemon peel - use a vegetable peeler to strip 4 lengths Juice of one lemon 3 inches of cinnamon stick 1/4 cup of dark brown sugar up to 1/2 cup of white sugar 1 cup of water 1/2 teaspoon of salt Method 1 Put all ingredients into a large pot. Cover. Bring to boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. 2 Remove from heat. Remove cinnamon sticks and lemon peels. Mash with potato masher. Ready to serve, either hot or refrigerated. Delicious with vanilla ice cream or vanilla yogurt. Freezes easily, lasts up to one year in a cold freezer

I am assuming you don't have alot of canning equipment, so peel, core and cut up the apples. Simmer in a heavy pan until the apples are soft, and mash with a potatoe masher. Season them the way you like them, cinnamon, sugar to taste etc. My grandma used to throw in a few cinnamon red hot candies. Nice cinnamon taste and pink color.

I just peel, core and dice my apples and throw them into a 5 qt dutch oven. Add a little water but not too much like soup or it takes longer to boil down. Bring to a boil and continue cooking until apples ae soft and breakdown into sauce consistency. Remove from heat and add white or brown sugar to suit your own taste. Start witha little , you can always add to it.

i make it every fall.. go to fruit market..... get 4-6 different kinds of apples... i get equal numbers of each... this is an all day job but well worth it.... i use bout a dz of each kind of apples... peal an core each apple... [ i save peal/core.. an make apple juice with it]... cut apples in 1/4's... put in lg stock pot... add 1 c water[ no more.. this is jus so they don't burn when ya first turn them on] cook on med til they start to boil turn down to low cook bout 35 min til mushy... i use potato masher an mash well... u now have apple sauce... u can add sugar[ to taste] but u don't have to.. i don't since i'm diabetic i like addin cinnomon i've also added other fruits like strawberries , blueberries, cranberries, even bananas...... then i put in freezer bags an freeze....

rachel ray has one go to www.foodnetwork.com she just made it with porkchops the other day...it was a chunkie version but she said to put it thru the food processor to desired consistency. gl.
