I have a 2 1/2 # chuck roast that is frozen solid. What should I do with it since I want to have it for dinner tonight. I've got about 5 hours of time start to finish!

ok thats actually good that it's frozen i always cook it from that state.anyways i preheat my oevn to 400 and i salt and pepper it all over then i put it in the oven for 30mins uncovered to sear it while that is searing i cut up a medium sized inion into quarters and about 8 cloves of garlic i then take the roast out of the oven and rub the onion and garlic all over and leave them in and add water till it covers the botom of the casserole and under half way up the roast put the lid on and transfer it into a 375 to 350 oven depending on your likeness i like mine cooked all the way so i do mine at 375 for 4 to 4 1/2 hours basting it every hour or so and the trick is to flip it half way through so it gets nice and brown on both sides.and if it needs more water add more remember you are the cook so if you think it needs something then add it these are just basic ideas anyways good luck on that sounds good btw

Take a large sheet of foil. Sprinkle the pot roast on all sides with a packet of onion soup mix. Place the roast in the center of the foil. Add sliced mushrooms, if desired. Bring up all the sides of the foil and seal with double folds. Place foil packet on a shallow pan. Bake at 350 for 2 1/2 hrs. You will have a delicious sauce to serve with the roast. You can thicken it with flour if desire.
This a favorite family recipe.

You could try defrosting in microwave but I have found this tends to make the meat a bit tough. Or, you could use an electric knife, cut up the roast into sections and make pot roast. That is probably what I would do. Simmer it down in a brown gravy and add new potatoes and carrots.

You've got to get it thawed. Wrap it in saran wrap and place it in luke warm water. Then cook it on high for at least four hours in a crock pot or alrge stovetop pot with some potatos and carrots

Microwave defrost? Defrost just a few minutes at a time and keep rotating it.
