My friend and her boyfriend have been dating for almost 3 years. She is 19 and he is 20. She has been really upset the past couple of weeks because she wants him to ask her to marry him. I try to tell her that maybe he is waiting until he is done with college, but she says she doesn't understand because being engaged doesn't mean you have to get married right away. He talks to her about wanting to start a family and get married to her, but he hasn't popped the question yet. She said everytime she brings it up, he says he's sick.

She's also been upset because for Valentines Day he didn't get her anything. She went over to his apartment the weekend prior to Valentines Day because his college is an hour and a half away. He knew they were celebrating Valentines Day then, but still didn't get her anything. She wanted to go out somewhere, but he didn't want to. He told her that he sent her a card in the mail, but he sent it to the wrong address. She has been very upset and depressed the past couple of weeks and it is hard seeing her like this.

What do you think he is waiting for? What is a good age to get engaged?

Everybody has a platinum solitaire ring, all the dresses are strapless, all the cakes look the same... I could go on forever! When did people stop having a unique wedding in favour of the "norm", and where could one possibly purchase different things in a society like this?

I am getting married in August 2007 and we have only 5 months to save money and get this thing done. We have a beautiful gazebo in our backyard and we plan to have the wedding there. We would then like to have the reception also in the backyard, since we have a large concrete patio to put tables and chairs. But when it comes to food, decorations, music, etc, does anyone have any suggestions on how would be the best way to budget these? We are not getting any help from our families financially so we are in this alone in that respect. Please help??

Would $10,000 be too much to spend on an engagement ring ? Does it depend on your income level ? Do many women think more practically ..... thinking that they would rather save for a down payment on a house rather than spend thousands on a ring ?

Does owning an expensive ring make a woman feel better or give her status ? Would a $200 ring satisfy you ?

Are real diamonds a requirment ? If a cubic zirconium diamond looked better and saved you a lot ofmoney ..... would you settle for cubic zircon ??

Got an appointment to try on some wedding dresses this Saturday...

What should I expect?

I will be bringing 2 different strapless bra's... do I need to bring some heels, or not?

Do I get my mum to take pictures of me in the dress, or is that not the 'done' thing?

How many dresses and bridal shops did you get through before you found THE ONE?

How long between seeing the dress, all the fittings, and you actually getting it home?

Are you expected to pay for the dress in full, deposit, or instalments?

Any other info/advice would be grateful...

I"m thinking of buying a solitaire engagement ring but I heard from few people that there's some issues - gets stuck on the clothes, hits the plate when washing dishes etc etc. Does solitaire ring break?? many problems? The people I want to stand up with me are my brother, sister, and two (female) friends. My bride-to-be's in the same situation; her brother and three (female) friends.

Our idea, as it stands right now, is to have our brothers as Best Man and, um, Dude of Honor, and then have three bridesmaids each.

Has anyone done something like this? How did it work out?
