The people I want to stand up with me are my brother, sister, and two (female) friends. My bride-to-be's in the same situation; her brother and three (female) friends.
Our idea, as it stands right now, is to have our brothers as Best Man and, um, Dude of Honor, and then have three bridesmaids each.
Has anyone done something like this? How did it work out?

I haven't seen it, but I think it would work just fine. When they walk into the church, have them all walk up individually instead of in pairs, and skip the bridal party dance. Come up with something more formal than dude of honor for the program. You might also want to consider one big party instead of separate bachelor/bachelorette parties. But I think this plan makes sense, and it will be even on both sides. Go for it!

I would balance it out more, make her brother the Man of Honor, and your brother the best man. Then have, the bridesmaids flank on both sides. This way you will each have one man and 3 women standing up for you. Perhaps you could also dress them in different colors to represent the two sides. As long it makes you both happy, it doesn't matter who stands up for you. It is your wedding.

It would be a little unconventional having 6 bridesmaids. You could ask 2 of the bridesmaids to be on the groom side and wear matching colors akin to the groom. Or even like sexy lady tuxedos. It could work. Ok so, below is how I think it should go. (g = groom ; b = bride ; m = man ; w = woman)
Wedding Party
g b
m w
m w
w w
w w

this sounds really nice.
it is great to include the people who are close to you in your big day, be it whether they are male or female, just make sure that they can do the 'jobs' that are required of them, you dude of honor is responsible for helping the bride, is he going to be able to do this and are all those with 'jobs' to do 100% reliable. if they are, a large female party sounds perfect.
i am having 3 girls and 2 men, so although smaller groups we still have more chicks in ours too.

Yep my best friend had more bridesmaids than groomsmen & it was fine. Do what you want its your day. There is no such thing as traditional ways of doing things ever since women got out of the kitchen and started earning a living on their own

If your both happy w/ the idea go for it. It's your wedding. Things aren't as black/white as they were when all these traditions came into play. Sounds like you have a good plan. I'd go for it!!

It sounds modern and if you like the idea just do. Thank you for giving me your kind and highly appreciated comments on the rhetorical differences of my chosen words. I was disappointed when I couldn't get your e-mail through the answers.yahoo site. How could I contact you again? :) Regards.

I was the "Best Chick" for my best guy friend when he got married, and it was fine.
I applaud you both for choosing your bridal party on what they mean to you and not what you think everyone else will like.
Best of luck to you!
