What are you supposed to give for the 3 year wedding anniversary?

for the 3rd anniversary it is tradtionally leather but as time has gone on it is more common to give crystal, glass or pearls.

Well, traditionally you're supposed to give leather, but my husband and I have never followed those "traditional anniversary gifts". We might once we hit the really big marks, like our 5 year(coming up this year), 10, 25, etc. Honestly, any gift that just shows sincerity, thought and tells your significant other how much you love them is a great gift. Some ideas since you haven't been married too too long, would be a love letter telling her how much you've enjoyed these past few years and are looking foward to the future, a home-made CD with some love songs that make you think about her, a romantic picnic or nice dinner out, etc. Congrats and good luck to you!
