My sister in-law was recently asked to stand up as a bridesmaid in her neighbor's wedding. She has been friends with her neighbor for 12 years and they are pretty close. The problem is, the bride picked out the dress she wants her bridesmaids to wear. It's an over-priced, slinky, form-fitting spaghetti-strap thing. My neighbor, along with six of the other eight bridesmaids is overweight. Seven of the eight bridesmaids literally look like stuffed sausages in these things. As if that wasn't bad enough, the bride also wants them to wear a $120.00 tierra (sp?) and matching heels, another $90.00. All Burnt Orange. All in all, this setup is going to cost each bridesmaid close to $600. for an "outfit" they will NEVER wear again. A mutiny is stirring. Five of the eight are talking "Thanks, but no thanks" Isn't this selfish of the bride? Shouldn't the bridesmaids agree on a dress, but the bride just pick the color? If the five decide to back out, would they be wrong to do so?

My husband and I got married a year and a half ago right before he got deployed. We just sent out announcements and said the reception would be held at a later date. Their deployment just got extended another four months. At this point we are thinking that since we would have been married two years already that we should just skip having a reception but we want to inform all the people we sent announcements to. Is there a good way to word this and explain to them why we just don't feel the need to have one anymore?

we just became engaged 4 mons ago.about 2 weeks after tom asked me to help pay off his debt.this dept is not from a medical emergency but from guilt.he cheated and left his wife and child for a old gf(not me)and when he did he gave his wife everything(bank accounts, stocks, car, house, ect)which along with a huge child support payment left him in debt.i know this sounds mean but i have worked hard for what i have and feel i should not have to pay for his "mistakes".i know he thinks i'm selfish for not helping him but i feel he made these decisions that put him in debt.plus after 6yrs he still feels guilty for what he did(rightfully so) and his exwife uses that guilt to get what she wants.so if i pay off his debt i feel that will just free up more extra money he can give her.he already pays her child support/health/daycare cost.

Both of my parents are deceased, and I have been wondering if it would be appropriate to ask my future father-law, to give me away. I have know family living, and also his brother would probably do this as well. Don't know if this is proper or not. Help me please. Thank you....

My Maid of Honor has been my best friend for 12 years, and she does not get along with my fiancee nor does she like him. It is a problem between the 2 of them and she is not willing to solve it. She really wants me to be with someone else and not go through with this wedding. My only conflict is whether I want to make her step down to be just a bridemaid or ask her not to be in my wedding at all, any suggestions? Only helpful advice please!

In about 3 weeks he will go to boot camp for 2 months, and we want to get married by the gov't before he starts his active duty, but I only have 2 months to plan it, and all the dates are tentative based on the Navy. I am considering something quick, easy, small, and cheap.. but what? Do you have any suggestions? I live in Cali if that helps.

Hi, I'm getting married in September this year, and my Step mother said they were going to take care of the wedding cake for us. I was very greatful at first, and then she started to talk to us about all the crazy ideas she has about our cake! She wants it to be "cheap" so she thought she'd ask at the grocery store first, and then she even threw out the idea of a butter tart cake OMG! She told us not to worry about the cake, so we don't even get to pick it out! I wondered if this idea would be ok. I thought I'd find the cake I want, and then tell her I found the perfect cake, and that SHE doesnt need to worry about it any more.. I know she's only trying to help, and I appreciate that! but I really don't like not knowing what I'm going to be getting. Do you think that would be rude? Could you please help me find a polite way of telling her that I don't want her to get the cake? maybe if she's willing to put the money she was going to spend toward it, but I'm not going to ask for it.

I admit, we are young (24/25). We have steady jobs. We make decent income (good enough to be pre-approved for a 2500 sqft house). We're not planning on having kids...yet (maybe 3 years into the marriage). He lives with his parents and 2 older brothers and 2 younger sisters. His mom doesnt want him to get married or move out. And I see that he's struggling because i think he feels like he have to choose between me and his mom (I dont want him to feel that way). I really want to move out of NY to the west coast. I'm basically waiting for him here in NY. Should I just go? I'm not sure what to do. We've been together for almost 6 yrs....

There will be about 30 guests, mostly from the South Bay. It would be great if both the wedding ceremony and reception could be held at the same place.
