As late as possible because it's gonna be hot as hell.

My friend got married in the evening in early September. Her ceremony and reception were held at a historic house with beautiful gardens. The event began when the sun was still high, but by the time they took pictures it was dusk. The photographer took some absolutely stunning pictures!
The main benefit to having it at that time was that it wasn't so hot. If you're in an area with true seasons, you have to take temperature into account. Remember, the bride will be in lots of layers and could be very very hot.

I think a good time for the ceremony would be around 4. Then you can take pictures afterwards and have hor D'orves for the guests at the reception from 5-6. Dinner can be served at 6, and then have a dance/party from 8-midnight.

I like 6:00 because you can go immediately from the ceremony to the reception without interruption, plus evening ceremonies just seem more elegant and romantic. An outdoor garden ceremony under the late afternoon sun would be gorgeous.

Find out when sunset is for that day. My brother and sister-in-law recited their vows as the sun was setting. It created a beautiful light and was a little cooler.

I would say between 6-7, then maybe by this time it wouldn't be so hot.

If you are going to include a reception dinner, 6PM is an excellent time.
