I Think A Volcano Waits, Maybe, 5 Or 3 Years Until It Explodes. And When One Does, We'd All Die, And Burn Up To Ashes.

What is so bad about wanting to preserve natural resources that it gets people so worked up? I mean the sheer hostility you see out there to even suggesting cleaner industry is preferable, or that recycling is a good thing is just astounding to me.

If I wipe up a mess with paper towels, I am supporting the cutting down of trees (for paper) and the use of chemicals including bleach in their manufacture. But I can put them in the paper recycle bin. If I wipe up a mess with cloth towels, I need to wash them (which uses electricity and detergents... both of which have to be manufactured). So do paper or cloth towels have less overall impact on the environment?

I'm confused by the way the term "natural" is popularly used. Don't people really mean "not affected by humans" when they say that? Isn't that kinda anti-human? A bird building a nest is "natural", but not a human building a house? A bear mauling and killing a racoon for straying into its den is "natural", but not a human shooting and killing a coyote on his property.

What do you mean when you use the word "natural"?

SINGAPORE USED TO BE THE HOTTEST PLACE IN SE ASIA, TO THE POINT THAT PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO VISIT MUCH LESS LIVE THERE BUT BECAUSE OF THERE ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND MGMT. THAT THEY PLANTED SO MUCH TREES ALL OVER THE PLACE THE CITY LOOKS SO ,CLEAN AND POLLUTIONS IS MUCH CONTROLLED AND PARKS ARE SO GREEN. WHY CAN'T WE IN THE USA DO THE SAME THING, WE WORRY SO MUCH OF OTHERS THINGS TO THE POINT OF WASTING OUR CITY LAND AND PARKS, WE BUILD CONCRETE EDIFICES INSTEAD OF PARKS AND RECREATIONS PLACES, STREETS INSTEAD OF PEDESTRIANS WALKWAYS WITH TREES ALL OVER THE PLACE, OR IS IT JUST SO SIMPLE A SOLUTION WE DON'T WANT TO BE BOTHERED BY IT?

The 20th Century saw the marvels of mechinisation and other advances. But what do you think the future holds now for farming in next 50 years or 100 years? Will GM foods become widely accepted as being safe and beneficial to mankind, or will organic food become dominant in the western world, prefering higher levels of health over higher levels of yield? And what of the effects of global warming, and of an increasing environmental conscience of the Western World?
