wow and all this to help you do your homework

well think about the physiology of the desert rat, think of its environemnt, think of adaptions it may have to do to survive.

it could be to conserve water, by reducing water losss through its skin, or its activity or what it eats.
it could be to maintian its temperature (fur?)
it could be behavioural.. ie it only comes out in daylight or at night
it could be its eyesight
it could be its sense of smell
it could be its sense of touch
it could be a snese of balance & therefore dictates its tail size.

If u can always travel across in the direction of the prevailing winds . The sand is packed and u can drive on it in that direction and the down hill side is soft but u can slide down it. U can not drive in the reverse direction because you will be trying to climb the loos side of the drums. If it is pretty flat u may be able to go a short distance in the cross direction.

He would wear his hat at all times to keep the sun off his head.
