Which is more energy efficient, Water heaters using natural gas or electric?

I would have to go with an electric water heater.

Electricity can be produced with solar, wind, water as well renewable resources. (not that this is done everywhere).

Natural gas, while it can be consdered a renewable resource, cannot be "created" passively like electricity can.
