As an education major, I'm looking for ideas on ways that I can incorperate fun into my lessons. I've heard of students being awarded 'money' to buy small items form a 'shop' in the classroom. Other teachers have some sort of 'catch;' that can be used in the event that a lesson ends early, etc to keep students occupied. (For example, one of my professors had a hockey goal in his class and woud play a little hockey in the back of the classroom.) I'm looking for details on any activities that teachers have in their classroom that help to create a community in the class and /or can be used in the event that I need something to fill a short amount of time. (All my profs tell us to alway over plan and have some sort of activity ready to go when needed.) Thank you in advance for your ideas! P.S. If you have more details on the money thing in the class - I'd appreciate that as well.

...to another English Teacher.
I had done individual teaching for 4 years, last September I began eaching group - quite all right, scary at times, but then I haven't much experience yet. Though, I do have some experience by now.
Anyway, my question is: there is this group in the mornings, quite hard to get them talking, they are not really friends with each other, just polite, different ages, and most problematic - different levels. We study by Elementary Headway, for some of them it is too easy.

I try different things to get them talking in pairs - topical questions, dialogues basing on what grammar we are on now, also group work, - still I hear simple "Yes/No" answers too much.

Any great Speaking Activities from your activities' bank?
Please, share, give some links, or write a short mesage, I will reply and happily share what I have got.

Thanks everyone!

Why are some teachers so young (in their mid to late 20s) and so damn gorgeous?? I find myself feeling very uncomftorable being taught by someone the same age as my boyfriend..however it's fun to look at them and then fantasize ;) why do you all think? And to the young teachers..would you ever consider having some fun with an attractive student who was over the age of 18 and never told a single soul about your fun together? Fun can mean just a date somewhere or something sexual as well..I'm just curious to know so don't instantly judge my curiousity as sick or gross ( I am over 18 and the teachers I have interest in are in their 20s)

I'd like to find a position in a smaller or more rural school district for the 2007-2008 school year. My endorsements are K-6 music and 7-12 history. (Yes, I know that it's a weird combination!) I've looked at the major newspapers in the state, but it seems like a listing I see one week is not there the next. Maybe I'm panicking too early, but I really want to land my first teaching job next year!

I go to Winthrop University and my professor didn't show up so the majority of the class left because one student stated that once a professor is not present for 15 minutes then the class is canceled. Is this true? if it is can u back it up?

What do you think, why do some people want to die? Is death necessary in our life? Why or why not? How can death change our life?
These are not homework question. These are discussion questions. I just want to know your opinions. I also want to know are these questions are appropiate to answer or should I change them. Yes, I made these questions from the book "THE GIVER". I don't know How did I do this? Just help me out by sharing your opinions. I just have to know that can we anser those question or cannot. Why? Because I don't have to answer them. My friends have to answer them. So don't worry about copying.

I've wanted to be a history teacher for a while now. I dropped out when I was 16 and got my GED. I regret it but there's nothing that I can do about it. I want to go back to school, literally. I want to teach, so I can keep kids from doing what I did while passing on, hopefully, my love of history. If it makes any difference, I just moved to Houston, Texas. Pretty sure state regulations vary. Thanks.
