Honestly. I don't understand this. It seems like we are too busy teaching our children the finer sides of cooking and organized sports than we are teaching them the simple basics of life. I almost had a heart attack today when I saw a question from a twenty-something that honestly said "be trade" instead of "betrayed." How does this happen? Where are we going wrong? Am I the only person in the world to find this utterly ridiculous?

I work as a teacher in a private school. I was given keys to the school so as to open the door and the classrooms. I live a bit far and I don’t drive a car so I have to commute by public transport. Anyway, it’s a bit tiring since I change from bus to train and then I use the underground. Approximately it is a twenty minute trip but, I have to walk to the school for another fifteen minutes so I discussed with my boss the fact that I was feeling very stressed-being the only one to have keys to the school-and he told me that he would give keys to the other colleague too. I feel much relieved now but could this be a negative thing for my ability to cope under pressure?

I have been volunteering at our local adult learning center working with people who are here from another country and are trying to learn English, and I LOVE IT! I obviously would do it for free because I am.However I would love to know what kind of education you have to have to get a job doing this & actually get paid to do it.I have heard that you know you have found your true calling in life when you find something that you love to do so much that you would do it for free, and I think this may be it for me. These people are so happy to be in America, it is so refreshing. Please help or give me some websites that I could go to, to get more information about this.
Thanks!

My 2nd grader(public school) has a spelling list each week, and part of homework is to write detailed sentences using the words.
My kid write interesting sentences with details like when, why, how, where, who or when, and the sentences are grammatically correct plus make sense.

My kid likes to use slightly different spellings for proper nouns (only people names) sometimes than commonly accepted. For example: Lucie(Lucy), Engela (Angela), Juudie(Judy), Julien (Julian), Luois(Louis), Henree(Henry). And a few times, my kid used names like Reidgwin, Windeolin, Tierlor....The teacher either write the commonly accepted spelling, or puts a ? next to the weird/creative names. These are often the only corrections in the whole homework.
Kid says she wants to use her own spellings for imaginary people's names sometimes. I think my kid is right. Is she ?
Should I mention it to the teacher, or let it go and hope for a teacher with more imagination next year?

My kindergardner received a packet of papers from her teacher. Each sheet is due on a different week from now until May 11. It is my responsibilty to hold onto this packet and give the homework to my daughter to do when its due.

Alot of this homework is for assignments she hasn't even learned yet, for instance the ones due at the end of April.

Should teachers do this?

I am creating a science unit on Dinosaurs and I need some creative ideas. I want the lessons to teach many things:
-Circle of life
-Physical Characteristics
-Food Chain
-Behavior
-Predator vs. Prey
-Extinction
-Mesizoic (spelling) Era-life span of the dinosour species from beginning to end

And, I'm stuck. I need some more objectives as well as creative activities to teach them (and the objectives I listed above).

Anyone have any ideas?
