Isn't it scary how inadequate education seems to be for the youth today? The youth are posting question on Yahoo! that are spelled so poorly and so poorly formulated, especially minority youths, that I am very concerned about their futures, their abilities to have good careers and to have happy lives. Basic spelling and grammar and literacy are lacking and I'm not talking about the regular IMing shortcuts that the youth are doing to communicate.

Have you noticed these failures in basic education and what are your thoughts and concerns about this scary lack of basic skills!

Yesterday my teacher told our class that she and most of the other teachers would stop teaching and go on strike if the school district didn't raise the teacher wages. my teacher said that she and other teachers get $60,000 a year. She is outraged because she says she has a masters degree and works really hard. She believes that she deserves at least $100,000 a year.

Which one/s did you use and how did the kids respond to them? I'm teaching first grade and I'm thinking of implementing (some of) them in my class next academic year right from the start, but I'm curious to see how they have been received elsewhere. Anyone tried it? Also, how did they work if you used them with older students?

Any age from elementary thru middle to high school (but let me know which grade level it should be for). Some fun activities to be used in group work or centers, interactive, hands on and creative. Something to get them all excited and interested in the subject.

with students with learning disablities, Mental retardation, Emotional/Behavior disorders, or with physical disablities), here in the U.S. we call it Special Ed? Anyways, if there is, do you ever hire from the U.S. or do you know how Special Education works in Australia. Also, what do you have to do to become certified as a teacher in Australia. Just tell me what you know.

I am a Junior in high school and must "teach" a 6th grade science class on Earth Day. I am scared out of my mind. I know I would like to have a few fun worksheets....but I am sure I need some general information on Earth day (pollution, green house effect, etc.)...I guess a small lecture. I have been looking into finding a nice arts and crafts activity but have found absolutely nothing...

Any advice/tips would be useful (I have a huge fear of public speaking). But I would also like help finding the materials needed (the worksheets, arts and crafts, etc.)...

Thanks so much.
