I have been to New York, loved it. Also my mom is from westchester, she moved there and lived there for 5 yrs. I have been many times to the city and westchester. I would like to move to Westchester County, because its very familiar in setting and enviornment to where I grew up in Ontario...clsoe to Toronto.

I am going into my fourth year of University this year, I will be graduating with an Honors Bachelor, and then commencing to Teachers College in Buffalo. I was wondering how much is a the entry salary/ general salary for a high school teacher in westchester. I think finding a job is important before moving to a new city, and in my case, a new country.. I plan on having my degree and teachers college certificate before moving.

Thank-you in advance for the comments, I hope you can help me =)

that because I get really high grades at school I should try and do some thing that requires a higher education. I don't believe there is any point in doing a job unless you really want to do it and I know teaching Science would make me happy yet I also know my father only wants the best for me. What should I do?

As a teacher this really bugs me:
I teach maths and one of the classes I have are trainee hairdressers.
A student of mine has just been allowed to graduate highschool even though she has failed seven out of her ten exams, has failed four out of five of her practical classes; has 78 yes 78 days of unjustified (no note) absences in the last six months and during her internship at a hairdressers she didn't show up three days out of five.
She's been allowed to graduate because according to the principal 'she won't resit the year anyways and hey, she can cut hair'.
Yes she can cut, the one class she passed, but she can't colour or anything else. She scored 13 out of 100 on her maths exam, she scored 23 out of 150 for languages. She has no skills whatsoever and her school just lets her out into the world to continue partying, drinking and bunking off thinking she had an easy ride this year. Infuriating, irresponsible towards the student or am I wrong?

My teacher keeps making insulting remarks about my religion, she can see that it hurts me but carries on, i don't know why she has to keep attacking me ( there are only 3 students in the class) when i have never been rude to her or anything. I don't know if i should report her because i had her for AS this year, and may have her for another year for A2 - because i'm afraid she'd treat me differently eg. that she'd mark me down for coursework perhaps. Or shall i remain silent, and just get through this extra year no matter how much she irritates me.

thanks.

What exactly is this question asking: "On what base do you claim your salvation?"
I am applying for a teaching position at a Christian school and this question is on the application, and I do not think I am understanding it correctly. What are your thoughts on what they're asking?

I start student teaching in September, I tend to be a bit over optimistic sometimes I have heard. Just looking for some advice from any teachers who have had a student teacher before?
What can I do to prove that I am very committed and dedicated to my future career and to my placementr?
Should I always be showing up earlier than my cooperating teacher and leaving later ( this is what my dept director recommended)?
Should I ask to take on more than I am assigned?
... a little worried and confused.....
any input would be greatly appreciated.I just don't want to be the new annoying and clueless girl in the building who tries too hard or doesnt try hard enough !!

thanks !

Here in the USA, our institutions of "higher" learning teach a brand of knowledge that does not embrace criticism. I call this kind of instruction facist. Our students are made to digest and regurgitate what they are taught without regard to the truth of the matter or face the penalty of being branded a failure. Aristotle rejected the curriculum (the word literally means racecourse) concept as being self-limiting and restrictive. He thought the world at large to be the best teacher and viewed with disdain the small minds that required confinement within walls.

With that as a premise, the question becomes of what real value and significance is a college degree, except as a readily identifiable indicia of actual learning and substitute for informed and proper judgment as regards a person's true abilities?
