Am an experienced teacher but feel like I am treading water when sent to a very challenging school. Need some fun or quirky ideas for time fillers to keep children focused, under control and make me memorable for all the right reasons!

Ok, me and my g/f started goin out on May 31st. The next month after that is June and there is no 31st in June. So therefore, my question to you all is: What is exactly 1 month after May 31st? (additional question) What would be 2 monthes and 3 monthes and 4 monthes and etc; after May 31st?

Are boys discriminated against in Elementary Schools?

By this I mean are elementary schools, curricula and teaching methods more geared towards a female style of learning than a male style of learning (and there is a difference). Is the fact that the vast majority of teachers for this age group are female have a negative impact on young boys learning patterns?

If not, how would you explain that at least in my country and I suspect many others, females do much better in Elementary school but males catch up and outperform later.

In my country females get more Bachelor's degrees but fewer PhD's. Does this say something about learning patterns? (ie - earning a BA means learning someone else's ideas but earning a PhD requires independent thought)

By the way, I think that the situation in High School Math education is the opposite (though improving). Of course my goal is a balanced education for all.

This is the career that i have, tentatively, chosen for myself. Is it better to teach it to foreigners in American, or in a foreign country? Is it easy to get a job like this? How easy?

I told all of the students to take out their HW and put it on their desk.(This was just a spot check)

One student refused and had a C.D. player on. I took the C.D. player off of his ears and asked to see his homework. He pulled out a paper that said F**K YOU!!! (I know this kid has issues so I just said AND YOUR REWARD FOR THAT IS A DOUGHNUT, do you want it chocolate, sprinkled or glazed?) In my class a Dougnut is a ZERO! When I checked the next person's paper in his row, he grapped me by the neck from behind and it felt like he tried to choke me. I got him off of me and he punched me in the face. I picked his NARROW AIZ UP BY HIS SHIRT AND SLAMMED HIM AGAINST THE WALL AND RESTRAINED HIM! Then he looked really scared and started apologizing.

1 Wk later his parents filed assault charges and now the head principal has placed me on suspension,
QUESTIONS
1. what do I do?
2. Was I wrong for restraining him?
3. Should I have let a snotty noise 15yr old beat the sh*t out of me?

I want to find a new career, and I'm sort of thinking about elementary eduacation....1st-4th would be fine for me. I think I am a compassionate person, as well as understanding, fair, like kids, and have good morals/values. I think I would make a good teacher. Plus, I would love summers off!
What are the ups and downs of the job that most people don't know about?? How long does it take to get the degree? What is the pay? Thanks. Any other info is welcome too.

I was curious about how teachers are certified in other states, where I live (Virginia), there is no 'Education' degree, you have to major in something else and take the courses for an education degree. In addition to taking the Praxis I and II. Is it like this in other states?
