We are smarter in the area we are teaching, that's why we are teaching you and you are not teaching us...I better be, I am a 1st grade teacher.

However, I believe what you are talking about is respect...not knowledge. Everyone deserves respect, even the slowest learners. If you look a great teachers, they all have at least one thing in common, respect for their students. They usually receive respect in return as well.

You will come across all kinds of people in this world. Some will respect you and some wont. Sadly this starts far too young not just with teachers, but peers, parents and the general public as well. Focus on the good, do what you have to do when its not. You don't have to like or respect these teachers (and you shouldn't) but just do your work, get your grade, and move on.

Good luck.

Teachers can never be smarter than all their students and in a lot of cases they aren't even smarter than most of them but what they do have is knowledge and experience. An person of average intelligence with knowledge and method can still teach something useful to a more intelligent person.

The flipside of that coin however is that they can't think that they are better than you just because they know more.

Nobody has the right to think that they are better than anyone and its especially annoying from teachers because they should know better.

Intelligent students should listen to their teachers and then decide for themselves what to do with that information.

How do I know all of this? I'm a teacher.

Smarter is not the quality.
Your IQ might even be higher. But wisdom is not the same as smarts.
More experience. More education. More time on Earth to see what things are like. Take advantage of their advice and don't take it personally that they are putting you down. They are just trying to give you the advantage of "been there and done that!"
They are in that profession because they like kids and want to make a difference. Start with that as a beginning...and work from there!

It bothers me when anyone acts as tho they are superior in a dismissive hurtful way.

Hopefully your teachers are smarter than you, that's sort of the point, so I think they are smarter OR something.

Oh this is such a funny question.

Sweetie, teachers don't think they are better than you. Its obvious that they are smarter than you. But the goal of a teacher is to try and make you as smart as they are.

Life is all about competition. If you can't handle the competition you'll always be disappointed in whatever you do in life.

Well they have got to be smarter than the students, right?? I mean, I'm not going to a class if the teacher is dumber than me.

in reality despite your reservations, they are smarter then you. Everything you are learning today they have learned, and probably have learned more. This is somehting that one should accept not reject.
What is bothering you is not that fact that they think they know more than you, but rather that they do know more than you, and it is hard for you to comprehend how another person on this earth can have more knowledge then you have acquired.

Teachers generally want to teach students so they can be filled with knowledge. Maybe there are a few teachers that think they are superior but generally they want you to learn.Remember they were once like you , students too.

There's a good chance they are smarter; ever think of that?

Teachers don't think they're better than you - they KNOW they're better than you.

But seriously, do you honestly think someone who hasn't left school is on an equal academic standing to a teacher, who has completed four years of university in addition to twelve years of regular schooling? Get your attitude in order and get a clue.
